The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

#547204 Asheville leads Radford 42-38 after 3 quarters. We play the winner in tomorrows final after beating High Point 78-54 in a game we dominated most of the way.

#547207 I probably would rather UNCA to win and that we play them in the championship. I could be wrong, but I believe we have a better chance to take the Big South than playing against the tricky Radford lady Higlanders.

#547209 Asheville wins 60-50. They have been really good at tourney time the last few years. We split with them this year, winning the last one at home 53-48.
By JK37
#547218 You’d rather have Radford. UNCA has had LU’s number the past few years. They will be poised and ready. Well-coached team.

But LU has been dominant. And on its home floor, LU still gets it done by double digits, I believe.

#547230 Lady Flames going to the NCAA's with a 60-42 win over Asheville. Tight first half but they blew it open in the second. Congratulations Lady Flames!

Attendance was pitiful. What is the problem with students not showing up?

They’re all “studying” a.k.a on the electronic devices. These students are becoming more anti social and it’s quite sad.

#547234 I watched part of the game and the little I saw, yeah small sample size but Baker? Is one of the best PGs I’ve seen in a LibertyWbb uniform.

When has women's basketball ever been a strong draw with students at the majority of colleges in America?

But sure it's the students fault. Not LU's failure to get the community to buy into LU sports when LU is literally the only game in town...

#547242 Congrats to Coach(es) and team!!! We should be a better team next year when the redshirts become eligible and one of the bigs coming in next year will add depth and height to our frontline. I would think a 15 seed but hoping for a 14 seed. It might be a couple more years before we get back to a 12 seed like in 2005.

#547243 My first thought was a #15 but I’m thinking being regular and Tournament champs would get LU off the 15/14 Bubble

#547244 I was thankful for the 2 dollar ticket for faculty/students. And Baker, our freshman guard from Mississippi, is the real deal: I've never seen a flashier point guard in an LU uniform, and she's quick as lightning!
By olldflame
#547245 Not to diminish the contributions of a lot of others, but Baker has been the differences maker in this years team. The future is indeed looking bright. I hearby declare the temperature of Carey Green's seat to be the basketball equivalent of absolute zero.

The pressure should be off for another couple of years anyway. It would be nice to see us win some game against better competition, every now and then. Gotta wonder how long he wants to stay? He is making a pretty nice piece of change.

#547255 Duke is still in the ACC I believe. Michigan is ranked #20. WBB does a very good job putting their non conference schedule together

You didn’t specify a number.
By olldflame
#547263 Easy for you to say that our teams should schedule all their non conference games against high major powers ballcoach. You aren't the one who would be taking all the butt-kickings. Green does a good job of sprinkling in some of those along with games against other teams at our level and 2 non D-1s max yearly.

#547264 Has ballcoach even been to an LU girls basketball game this year? I've only been to 2.
By ballcoach15
#547271 I went to 1. The WBB schedule did not line up properly with my other schedules. In reality, I saw less basketball games this past season than any season in over 20 years. (men's, women's and high school)

Softball takes priority over other sports

I have seen 18 LU softball games at this juncture in season.

I saw that. The boys in Huntington would love to go Huggy Bear hunting!
By JK37
#547278 They should’ve just put WVU as a 4 and matched them up with Marshall in the round of 64.

Ballcoach, the issue specifically with Liberty is that a lot of teams from “major” conferences don’t want to play the Lady Flames. It’s a lose-lose proposition. As someone who has worked on a lot of schedules at that level, I can tell you that scheduling games is no snap-of-the -fingers process. It’s hard.

I don’t like the match up. I picked Marshall to win their tournament. They were a Sweet 16 sleeper for me. Ugh

JMU was the common opponent for both teams. We lost to JMU (RPI 68) by 11 and UT (RPI 9) beat JMU by 29. But if we can make some 3's and play better defense and stay out of foul trouble we can keep it fairly close. Our RPI is 82, not bad for us Play Basketball

And Alabama's football team can be beat as well. Doesn't mean WE could beat them. In a bit of :oldhag history, this is not the first time we have met the Vols in the first round. Can't remember the year, but in the infamous "battle of the unbeatens" a Liberty squad that had gone undefeated against a schedule of cupcakes was severely pummelled by the undefeated UTK team led by Chamiqua Holzclaw.
By ballcoach15
#547326 I believe we played TN in 1998, when we both were the only 2 undefeated teams in the nation. Regardless of score of that game, NCAA should have never matched up the only 2 undefeated teams in the first round. Very poor scheduling/seeding. As a result of being undefeated, LU should have never been a 16 seed.

At the time I agreed with you, and was upset with the seeding. After I cooled off, I realized that in the entire 29 games we won that year, there was not one really good team among them. You think the BSC is bad in WBB now? It was awful back then, and our OOC schedule was pitiful. Quite frankly, we had no business in the NCAA tournament, but the BSC tourney provided an easy path to an automatic bid.
