The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

where'd you sit? lahaye isn't exactly the most spectator friendly arena in the world. one of the only good spots in the whole place is standing by the rail on the balcony.

hockey games are awesome. i love the sport and go to a lot of the games and its still hard for me to follow everything that goes on. in fact, our team is so good this year, that a lot of the games become boring after the first period because we've taken such a huge lead that its over so early on.

As someone who has played and watched hockey for 22 years, it is one of the of the most exciting sports out there. There is a reason why the hockey team can out draw men's and women's basketball on any given night. This is why I've been to maybe 3 women's games live and almost 100 for hockey.

I would not trade a single basketball game ticket(mens or women) for a season ticket for hockey

I went to one Gretna football game. The kids were small, there wasn't a lot of scoring it wasn't very exciting so I left after a few minutes.

All I can say about Gretna football is: 5 State Championships . you should have stayed longer than a few minutes.

Hockey is like NASCAR...boring as heck to watch on TV, but incredible in person. The thing watching an NHL, AHL, or even an ECHL game is the pure skating ability of the players.

Very accurate. It's by far my favorite live sport. It's gotten much better on TV with HD/16:9 widescreen, but it's still infinitely better in person.

I still remember growing up having Roanoke Express Season Tickets... sigh. Those were the days.

Interesting note: I was actually at the last game they ever played, against the Florida Everblades in the playoffs. Just happened to be in Miami, so we drove for Naples to catch the final playoff game. We bought tickets for general admission, but a fan gave up his tickets and let us set right next to the Roanoke bench, front row. That was a classy thing.

I can remember my freshman year, piling into someone's car (8 of us in a Chevette, IIRC) and driving to Salem (Lancerlot Arena) to watch LU hockey. At that time, I had no clue about most sports at LU, but I knew hockey. I went to every game I could. If I'd had an on-campus venue to watch them, I'd have been at every game.

I wouldn't give one hockey tickey (NHL, AHL, ECHL, or anything) for season tickets to the NBA.

NOW -- back on topic. Once LU has a better sporting culture (meaning students who want to support their classmates and watch the games),attendance will improve. It's happening in football, and it will happen elsewhere. With as many alternatives as there are, admin has to give the students more reasons to want to watch women's basketball.

I used to watch women's basketball because I could get in cheap and see them and the guys play. Maybe they should do something like that again. We've been going to Morehead State basketball games (one a year) because their dance team holds a camp that my daughter loves going to. That kind of thing (cheerleaders, maybe even a basketball camp, things like that) will boost attendance AND community involvement with the program.

Want to increase attendance? More doubleheaders. Makes it a lot easier to justify a trip from Roanoke if I can see 2 games.

One thing I think might help is if players are in classes to mention games coming up. Mention them in hall meetings, suggest that leadership teams who have athletes as part of their halls, work out having games as part of brother/sister activities (outside of football). More giveaways might help too.

Outside of Vanderbilt coming in a couple of years ago, there has not been a marquis team to visit the Vines since VT did a number of years ago. We usually bring in 3 D2 schools a year and beat up on them. This doesn't inspire anybody. I wish both the men's and women's schedule would limit this to 1 or 0 D2 games IMHO.

I was at the Radford game in 97/98. That was a lot of fun! The Vines was electric that night. (In my four years at LU, there was not one men's game that could rival that one). I think the attendance that night was 5,117? Could be the highest ever for a girls game. My roomate and I drovedown to Knoxvegas to se us get killed by Tenn. If only we had Katie with Sharon and Sarah.

Really the rub is in the fact that teams (and I think that Chris touched on this in another discussion) have nothing to gain and everything to lose from facing Liberty, and that was true even in the days of Elena Kisseleva (Bengds) and the Wilkersons all the way through Katie Feenstra and through the Frazees to now. Remember our undefeated team? They still ended up a 16 seed and had to face Tennessee (and basically got destroyed).
