The Lady Flames return to the Vines Center after their Texan holiday. DII Glenville should be just the tonic Tuesday evening to heal their Aggy & Bear woes.

Playing a WV team not from Morgantown or Huntington should be an easy win for the Flames.

Some of them do make polyester look good though! :D :D

It wasn't pretty at all. They were more aggressive than us, and there were several instances where we collided with each other going for rebounds and lost the ball or knocked it out of bounds.
They had more points off turnovers (35 vs. 28). The main reasons we won the game were because we were taller (62 points in the paint vs. 36), and because they missed a million three-pointers (7-46).
There was one fairly long stretch in the game where Coach had Rachel and LaKendra together at guard (no Emily or Dymond). I don't know if he was just experimenting and/or if that means Devon will be out for even longer.
All in all, it was a tough night. I sure hope we can get squared away or it is going to be a long road trip.

Lang's write-up.

And this is promising:
. The Flames played for the seventh straight game without Big South preseason player of the year Devon Brown, who may make her debut Sunday at James Madison. If not Sunday, she’s certain to return for Liberty’s Dec. 18 game at North Carolina Central. Green said that Liberty has missed Brown’s sense of competitiveness, and as she’s returned to practice, her teammates are getting an idea of just how hard Brown wants to play on a nightly basis.

While I'm still concerned about the turnovers, I don't know how many of you actually went to the game but Glenville State's unique defense caused plenty of turnovers in the beginning. I believe I counted 4 in the first 72 seconds.

Regardless, the non-conference schedule is going to be tough but in 2008 we got out to a bad start and we were able to turn it around. I believe we'll be able to do the same when conference play comes around.

I didn't count, but that seems about right. But, we have played them before and knew what to expect. We just didn't execute against the press, and even when we broke it, we didn't convert on enough of the resulting 2 on 1s.
Having said that, I agree with your comment about conference play, and having Devon back will be huge. :D

High Point, Gardner Webb and Coastal are 3 senior laden teams with height and good guard play. they don't turn the ball over anywhere close to what we do. The way we're being outhustled for 50-50 balls I am concerned. We fumbled away half of those turnovers and threw the others away. Yes, GS palyed ferocious defense but crosscourt passes in a full court press will always be intercepted. Devon will bring intensity and fire (light a fire) and will be both the best palyer offensively and defensively. We will see some improvement. But we need improvement in the play of the remainding players if we're going to be successful in the BSC. At this point I see us as a 3rd place team. We GOT to get the turnovers to @ 15 a game. We are not talented enough to beat a Div 1 team when we turn it over the way we have so far (See C of C and Creighton).

You are correct, Coach Green should have had them prepared for the tempo. It looked as though in the beginning the Flames tried to control the tempo, rather than just playing with it.

As a first year watcher, I've got to admit that you are scaring me. I guess I am hoping that "all systems will be go" when Devon returns.

I'm not quite as concerned, although I don't like the way the ladies are playing so far. We have all but one player back from the team that won last year, plus talented Freshmen in Jasmine & Emily. It's all about who has the best team in March, not November.

I wouldn't hit the panic button yet. We've been through this before with a slow start to the year (2008), and we came back just fine.

we lost 7 of our first 10 that year...and only once prior to the NCAA tournament (a close loss at HPU) so I certainly am not hitting the panic button (or calling for any coaching changes)
