The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

Based on that article, it sounds like Krystal had already left too. They may have any number of reasons for moving on, but I know the school was taking some flack for a situation that certainly had the smell of nepotism. Having said that, it's tough to argue with their recent results.

They both played for LU. Krystal was a borderline D1 player at best. Kimmie wasn't even close. I can't remember if they actually wasted a scholarship on her or not. Wouldn't matter a lot because she would get free tuition as the child of an LU employee anyway. Of course that has little if anything to do with their ability to coach, and it looks like they both did a good job for their dad.

Can you blame them for leaving? G-W had their best season ever during a rebuilding year for LU, and they still couldn't dethrone us. I'd leave too.

It would matter since it would still count toward the scholarship limit.

What I meant was it wouldn't have much impact on her if she had an athletic scholarship or not because of her dad working for the school. Obviously, if she were on an NCAA grant-in-aid, it would count against our limit, and would keep us from offering it to a player who had actual D1 ability.

Even if it was dependent grant-in-aid, and not technically given on the basis of her athletic ability, it would still count against the limit, and keep one from, as you say, a legitimate D-I prospect. No big deal, just clarifying...

I don't believe that is accurate. I know for a fact that Dominique Jones and Tim Layer both played as a walkons for our MBB team when their dads were assistants, and they did not count against our limit. This is not a grant-in-aid at all. Free tuition for children is a benefit provided to all LU employees. Since the benefit is available to anyone in that category regardless of athletic ability or lack thereof, I feel pretty confident that NCAA rules do not apply. It's just like if someone came to school on an academic scholarship and then walked on to an athletic team, or for that matter a scholarship football player who also played basketball like Chris Summers did for a while a couple of years ago. You don't think his schollie counted against both sports do you?
