The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

From http://www.wnba.com/shock/news/feenstra_071105.html: (Apologies if it's already been posted elsewhere)

...Katie Feenstra did not have a homecoming stop during the tour. The closest she got was dinner with a former assistant coach and her husband, who drove to the tour opener at the University of Maryland from Lynchburg, Va. - home of Liberty University. Feenstra’s alma mater - a member of the Big South Conference with 9,600 students on its campus - is hardly the fast track to athletic acclaim. Of the 29 players on the roster, only veteran Taj McWilliams-Franklin, from St. Edward’s (an NAIA school in Austin, Tex.), comes from farther off the women’s basketball map...

...While the women’s basketball team has been Liberty’s most notable athletic program, winning 10 of 11 Big South championships, there’s not a strong track record for Liberty as a launching pad to the pros. Feenstra is one of two professional athletes listed on the school’s Web site. (Backup NFL running back Samkon Gado of the Houston Texans is the other.) Unlike most of her current USA Basketball teammates, that scarcity was a non-factor in her decision. “To be honest,” she said, “I wasn’t even really sure I wanted to play after college...”

Thanks for the article, Peter, but the writer needs to be more current on the research: LU now has 10,400 undergraduates.

not to mention the fact that we've put 20 + athletes in the pros, maybe more.

more thinly veiled condescension from the media
