Miller attracts college offers
By Preston Towns
The Loganville Tribune

Published July 18, 2008
LOGANVILLE — Unlike the majority of his teammates, the basketball season did not come to a close for Loganville Christian Academy’s Daniel Miller last February after leading his team to a second straight ICSGA state championship.

Instead, Miller became heavily involved with college recruiters, workouts, arcane NCAA regulations that determine who, when, where and how colleges may talk to him and, perhaps the most time-consuming activity of all, AAU basketball tournaments.
And here is where we come into the picture ...
Rivals.com has Miller ranked as the number 19 center in the country and youthprepstar.com has him ranked as the number 11 player in the state of Georgia.

The first school to show real interest, and the first to offer a scholarship, was the University of Minnesota, under coach Tubby Smith. Miller eventually declined the offer from the Golden Gophers and is currently considering offers from Stanford University, Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, Liberty University and Davidson College.

He’s also received offers from at least four “mid-majors.”

Wow. Knowing we only need one more piece to our puzzle for the next 3+ years this would be huge! 70+% from the field

I've never understood this, the schools listed, who haven't offered: Is that his list of who he's interested in or is that schools that are interested in him?

That article says he's received offers from all of those schools.

Rivals did a story on him a few days ago talking Georgia really putting the pressure on Daniel to take their one available slot in their 2009 class. He apparently has offers from all those listed as best as I can tell. This kid is a legitimate major prospect.

Id say we have very little shot at him. But I would have said that about a few of our 08 recruits.

What's up with Davidson all up in our recruits lately? It seems like they're always where we are all of the sudden.

I agree, but he does go to a Christian school and that could make the difference.

It's probably more the other way around.

Perhaps the price of airfare has curbed their international travels based on their budget.

The fact is still listing us alongside the Stanfords, GTs and UGAs of the hoops world bodes well for our chances.

Does that mean LU is above or below the "mid major" classification?

I think you guys missed the point in your eagerness to the punchline. Based on what was written, the author obviously considers us something else.

Well I honestly don't see how LU (or any other school from a non-major conference other than Gonzaga and maybe Butler and Davidson) could be viewed as being above the mid major classification when the likes of Davidson and Butler are still looked at as mid major. Let's be realistic here, how many teams from a non-major conference have risen above the category of mid major other than Gonzaga? Butler and Davidson are the only ones that can even be considered I think, and I think many analysts still consider them mid majors, although Butler is on the cusp of rising above that category and Davidson could be too if they keep the wheels rolling when Curry gets out of town...

Here is a little blurb on him last week from Scout ...
Also having a solid performance was Georgia big man Daniel Miller. Miller is a massive human being, who at 6-foot-11 knows how to use his size and be a true post. At this point Miller is more impressive on the defensive end. Despite not being a great athlete, he uses his size and wingspan to alter and block numerous shots. Offensively he can finish around the rim, but his hands seemed questionable at times.

Nobody is saying we are above the level of mid-major. What we're trying to say is we are being considered by this kid more than he's considering the 4 mid-majors who are also interested.
