I noticed that UNCA had their schedule up, and they are scheduled to play you guys on Nov. 18 in Asheville (only a few days after the season opens up)..have any of you guys heard about this? Is it on TV or something? Everyone in the conference is playing a couple of December conference games, but I've never seen a conference game in any league being played that early.

That is odd indeed. I'm sure there must be something going on at the Justice Center forcing the schedule changes. Perhaps the November date was all we could arrange after signing non-conference contracts on other dates in December.

Maybe so, and with exams and other things, I'm sure scheduling December conference games is tough. Just thought it was odd. But with still alot of teams left to release schedules, it may not be the only really early conference game..who knows.
It'll be interesting to see what UNCA does with Kenny George. They are scheduled to play 2 non-D1 games on the 14th and 16th. Do they hold him out until the 18th so that he'll be at full strength for the conference game?

There'll be a grand total of twelve people at that game. It's the Tuesday of the week that may be leading up to our most important football game of the year. 90% of our students won't realize it's basketball season yet.

This is a game that on a Saturday is a possible travel game, especially with how the games against them were last year and Kenny George.

So, will this help or hurt us by having it so early in the season since we will have an almost entirely new team?

If this were a team like Radford who returns everyone, I'd say it hurts us. UNCA has to replace their entire back court so it doesn't scare me as much.

Asheville losing it's back court hurts them but if they can get one good guard either through juco or HS like Chris Gaynor was as a Freshman then they could still be good because they are athletic. Vincent James might be the best athlete in the league in terms or running and jumping ability. Eddie compared his athleticism to David Thompson! I don't like conference games this early in the season though. Maybe because of the growth of the league, they had to come up with a 1st sememster date and this was the only one that worked for both schools. I agree with Super that Radford should be a dangerous team.

I like this game being there. I really do. I just wish I could make it.
Oh, and they'll pack out the Justice Center. That means 35 people instead of 12, but it'll be packed.
Or does their new gym open this year?

After thinking about this, I think it will be good for us to have this game early. I mean it’s always tough to win there regardless of how good they are, but you know McKay will have them focused on that game during pre-season since they were regular season co-champs.

Vincent James was a senior last year. Are you talking about John Williams? Because he might be the best leaper I've seen in this league.

They're finally SUPPOSED to be just breaking ground...it will be a couple more years, yet. It is amazing Eddie does as well as he does with all the restrictions their AD puts on his program...a true he-woman-man-hater.

I was thinking of James but yes John Williams has serious hops too. As far as leapers in the league, Gabe Martin and Greg Lewis come to mind. Danny Gathings had some hops too but I didn't get to see them on display that often because we usually did a good job of keeping him out of transition.
