Today, the NCAA released its recent findings for Academic Progress Rates (APR) for all Division I institutions.

Liberty University’s women’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball programs continued to be recognized for excellence in the area of APR. The University’s men’s basketball program was reprimanded for its past APR performance, resulting in today’s public reprimand and a loss of two scholarships in accordance to NCAA guidelines.

So we're losing 2 which I believe means now that Jenkins is gone we are at the limit. Unless we had counted on losing 2 but I was just under the impression that it was 1.

During the Fall 2007 semester, the men’s basketball team GPA was the highest it had been in five years.

So this is crazy to think about

Sanders
Curry
Floyd
Jackson
McMasters
Austin Smith
Anthony Smith
Baker
Stephene
Ohman
Anderson

Those are all of the scholarships right there. 6 out of 11 are newcomers. Crazy. Walkon tryouts should be interesting.

How does this affect future years? When can we regain the scholarships? What does it take to earn them again?

How many will we have in 2009-2010? 2010-2011? 2011-2012?

Out of the 5 returners, only 3 played last year.

yowza, 10-20th percentile for both bball and golf. We're really rocking it. Really, a ton of those numbers look pretty ugly. Just not as low as basketball.

I think it's just a one year loss unless we don't pull the numbers up.

It's my understanding that the APR is a number based on a 4 year average. So I would think next years schollies would be based on 2004-2008. So let's hope 2003 was a really bad year for us and that 2008 was a really good year for us.

The article from the SID’s state that 4 athletes will graduate this year – Bannister, McLean, Porter, and Monroe. That’s 4/4, it has to help. I don’t know if it will be enough to get us out of this rut though. It may take at least 2 years.

plus, even though BJ is transferring if he was in good standing, academically I don't think it's a big deal. Holland is coming back to graduate which is a plus, but I don't know about everybody else.

Stephene really isn't a returner, but the bottom line is we have 3 players who played last year in Smitty and Ohmerson, plus one more with D1 experience in Baker. We have Sammy Jackson coming with 2 years of JUCO ball and the rest are Frosh.

In spite of this, the fact is that barring injury we will have more legit D1 players than we did last year. We may have had 12 scholarships last year, but McKay only had confidence in 7 1/2 (the half being J. Holland). Baker was hurt and Russ, Soup, and Armond might as well not have been there. I think all 11 scholarship players will be real contributors next year. Walkons will only play a role if we have multiple injuries.

Good news everyone!!!

per ncaa.org
10 percent cap. To ensure that the immediate penalties are rehabilitative in nature and not overly punitive, the Division I Board of Directors approved a limit on the number of contemporaneous penalties that apply to a team in a given year to about 10 percent of the team's financial aid limit. That includes rounding up to the next whole number for headcount sports. For example, in the headcount sport of Division I men's basketball, a team with an APR below 925 would be subject to a penalty of up to 10 percent of the maximum 13 scholarships, rounded up to the next whole number (in this case, a maximum penalty of two scholarships).

we can't possibly lose any more scholarships in the future than we already have! :dance

But the 26 teams that have now scored less than 900 in two consecutive years must improve now. A third consecutive score below 900 would keep them out of NCAA tournaments 2009-10, and a fourth straight year on the list could lead to having Division I status revoked.

Hah, I know it's the basketball forum, but look at the tennis team's ratings. Wouldn't those scores be from the atrain era?
