Hey Flame fans...

Can you give any insight on Layer? From what I've read, I like the hire, but would like the Liberty community's take as well.

Best of luck in the future and thanks in advance.

He's a great guy, makes his guys work VERY hard, loves to coach up defense, very passionate. He will be a great addition to the MU staff, he's an experienced Head Coach who recruits big men VERY well. Best of luck, Dale! (And you get his son, Tim. He's lights out from three. :D)

Thanks... nice of you to add your thoughts.

All great things you mention. We have struggled in the big man department for some time, so I think Layer will especially be good for us there.

Is Tim a walk-on at Liberty currently?

Yes, Tim is a walk-on. My obsession with him is a joke, since I am a Colorado State fan, I like to see former Rams do well.

And no problem, I have great respect for Coach Layer, he's a great coach and I wish him the best.

Do you have an MU board you come from? If so you should give us the link so we can keep up with Dale and Tim... (or so I can keep up at least. :D)

The best source of info on Marquette basketball is at the Scout site, Marquette.scout.com or more simply, marquettehoops.com

We'd be happy to have anyone come over and share thoughts on Layer or anything else.

Layer was a very good coach/recruiter and was a calming influence on McKay. It will be tough to replace him.

Here is the story from the Milwaukee fishwrap ...
Layer rounds out staff

Eight years ago, Dale Layer hired a young up-and-coming assistant named Buzz Williams to his staff at Colorado State.

On Saturday, their relationship came full circle as Williams hired Layer to round out his staff at Marquette University.

"There's definitely a comfort level there, but that's not the reason I hired him," said Williams. "I hired because he's the exact right person, right coach for what we need within our staff. I didn't want to hire people because of prior relationships; I wanted to make sure I hired people with impeccable character, which Coach Layer definitely has."

A head coach for 16 years at various collegiate levels, Layer comes to MU after a one-year stint as an assistant at Liberty University. Prior to that, Layer compiled a 103-106 record in seven years at Colorado State, where he led the Rams to the Mountain West Conference championship and their first NCAA tournament bid in 13 years in 2003.

Has TBGBG become the new Dickens?

I wish Coach Layer nothing but the best up in frigid Milwaukee.
