Lang's season-ending evaluation of the team

From our local fishwrap:
Even with a limited roster to work with, Liberty was extremely competitive. Eight of the Flames' 16 losses were by single digits. Liberty's only terrible performances came in losses at Kentucky, High Point and Longwood.
"When you look at it as a whole, we lost Liberty's all-time leading scorer in Larry Blair and a former Big East honors player in Dwight Brewington," McKay said. "I'm really proud that our group persevered. We, night in and night out, played seven guys. We were 12-2 at the Vines, so we established some home-court confidence. We were in a lot of games. We didn't win them, but we were in them."
Liberty loses Bannister, McLean, Porter and Russell Monroe to graduation, but McKay is bringing in a recruiting class that was ranked in the top 50 nationally by one publication. Guard Seth Curry (brother of Davidson standout Stephen Curry) and forward Carter McMasters will probably be expected to play right away. And Smith will be a candidate for Big South preseason player of the year honors.

What a great quote from Alex.
"Did my expectations get met?" McLean said. "No, but I'm happy with the way things went. We've all grown as people. I know I have. I'm blessed to have been able to work with this (coaching) staff. I've learned a lot."

With all the glowing positives of a 4th place finish in the weakened Big South and the promise that this recruiting class can replace our highly talented post and point it would only be fitting that the great old hymn "Blessed Assurance" become our theme song as together we climb to the prior attained heights.

To play Devil's Advocate again... wouldn't LU be losing the post and point guard even if the old coaching staff were there. They would have had to replace them as well with a recruiting class and is there any way of knowing that class would be better than the current staff's recruiting class?

But it's more fun not to.

Except it's not. It ruins 90% of basketball discussion on this board and then I have to lock it. It is the opposite of fun.

In that case, wouldn't it be simpler just to lock out a certain poster as opposed to an entire thread? Otherwise, you're basically blaming everyone else for doing exactly what the board is here for in the first place.

Boy I am confused....so if someone disagrees with the subjective opinion of the facts then the mode is attack them. There are no personal attacks or threats to ban someone from the board in my post. If all that is wanted is conformity to a short sighted view of the politics of some of the posters then let's consider a FF national athem of the "Three Blind Mice"

I know you're trying to be clever but it's not working out in this situation. I obviously should not be ignoring things.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes."
Then, we think we would have had the 7' Nigerian at the post, and there were point prospects (RL Horten for one).

To add to my last post -
The real question is "Can you get the program back in the top three of the BS on a regular basis?"

It'd be tough for him to play for us if he's stuck in Africa. Which he is right now. But really that's not the point at all anymore. That's why it annoys me so much to be back having this conversation again and again.

Whoever "Friend of the Family" is - I was answering his post, not trying to initiate any referendum on past issues.
And you're right - it would apparently have taken some poliitcal pull to get the Nigerian in, but if that's not the point, then I'm not sure I should have addressed that either.
Let me say this for all of you guys: I'm all for honest evaluation, but you will never hear me call for the dismissal of a coach, including our basketball coach, unless there were major issues of morals or some complete disloyalty to LU.
I'm accutely aware of the past, and I believe there is relevance of the past when discussing the present, but I have NO DESIRE WHATSOEVER to try and be a nuisance on this board, or to the basketball program, or any other LU program.

LCONN you make a good point and it is time to go forward. We have less spectulation now knowing that we most are easily satisfied with a stumbling finish and 4th place. So it is clear that while some have said this staff didn't have time to recruit that they did bring in 4 or 5 players after being hired. Yeah but no big deal one wasn't eligible and the 6'10" New Mexico transfer from a christain hs decided not to stay with his old coach. Looking forward will clear the picture as we are all confident that next year should see us battling for a championship now that the staff has two recruiting classes under its belt.
It is great that freshmen can come in and replace a double double machine and an acc penetrator. I am sure more than 2000 fans will camp outside to get tickets and we will quickly forget the subpar finishes of 1-2-3. It is going to make all of us so proud.

Yeah since that was happening when we did have a 2-1-2 finish
