Big props to Ant. He has played the last 3 1/2 games like we all hoped he would. Hopefull, this will carry over to a superb senior year. Here's his numbers over the past 4 games:
21 ppg, 5.25 rpg, 11-30 from 3 (36.11%)
That's his averages in the past 4 games against VMI, Longwood, Charleston, & Coastal. And remember that Coastal game he played horribly in the first half. He finished with 17 points that game, and I think at least 15 of them came in the 2nd half. He has been on fire!

Anthony with a huge game again tonight and a new career high with 29. He should have had a couple more baskets too.

A missed layup on a ridiculous TeeJay pass and a botched Dunk would have given him 4 more. But still a great job by Anthony - hopefully it carries over to Tuesday.

Seems like the more amazing the pass is from TeeJay, the more likely the receiver will botch the finish.

What was great though is he had a smile on his face all the way back down the court after that missed dunk

Here's a nice poll for the
Anthony Smith tallied his 1,000 career point on Feb. 16, making him the 20th player in Liberty program history to do so. Who is your favorite duo of teammates to reach the milestone?
Anthony Smith & Larry Blair
Matt Hildebrand & Julius Nwosu
Karl Hess & Mark Chafin
Bailey Alston & Mike Coleman

Didn't Bailey & Mike Minnett play together for one season or was that Bailey's transfer year?

Bailey Redshirted when Minny was a senior. BA used to toy with Mike in practice. They didn't really like each other. Truth is BA and me got into a few scuffles in practice and once in a game believe it or not. Anyway, the Coleman BA Combo was barely 1 season too. Alston's and my senior year Coleman was a soph and didn't play much due to injuries but we were awfully good when he was in there. Coleman was a beast like McLean. Coleman and I were tied for second leading scorers on the team at around 13 per game I believe that season. Mike Coleman really didn't score most of his points until his Jr and Sr year when we were already on our way to getting out of shape and losing our skills.

Actually, they left out the most prolific combination on the court TOGETHER in LU history. That would be Karl Hess and Ed Vickers. Chafin scored more points in a Liberty uniform than Vickers (who was a transfer), but he was a couple of years ahead of Karl. Vickers and Hess played together for 3 years, and won the NCCAA championship as Seniors. They would be my favorite pair, just ahead of Juice and Hildo, who were probably the BEST combo to play for the Flames. Hildo also played 1 year with Aluma, when he was a Senior and Peter a Freshman. That was the first BSC championship team in 93-94.

30 points tonight for Anthony. He has set a career high his last 2 games and both have been since I posted this thread. I'm not taking credit for it though

I'm feeling some Lone Star pride for the way my fellow Texan stepped up tonight with the season on the line.

Lang showing Anthony Smith some love in his blog:
My biggest problem with the final voting was that Kenny George was named to the Big South’s second team. Sorry, but he missed five league games and huge stretches of others. I’m fine with him being defensive player of the year. His 7-foot-7 presence alone was enough to force teams to scrap their entire offensive schemes. Both Liberty’s Anthony Smith and High Point’s Mike Jefferson had better resumes than George.

Anthony has been amazing the last couple games- but he was awesome tonight. I would love to know where this Anthony was at the beginning of the season. Oh and can I comment about Ace's fail at a dunk, but a smile on his face the whole time. Funniest thing I've seen in awhile.

Great game

That was hilarious. It seems like he felt like an idiot for missing it, but he couldn't stop laughing. I couldn't stop laughing either. Whenever stuff like that happens, I always wonder what the coach is thinking. Does he thinks it's a little funny? Or is he ticked that they were getting too showy?

he was probably laughing on the inside. we had a decent lead, so it didn't really matter. how could you not laugh at that?

Someone who know's VMI basketball VERY well said he thought he'd score more than Reggie if they were to switch teams (Ant being in that fast pace system)....that took me a little off guard...but I like it

I think one reason Alex was so tickled is because he gave Smitty such a hard time about getting rejected by the rim against Radford and now he knew the shoe was on the other foot.

This year we’ve focused so much on our freshman and Seth in particular, but Anthony has played very well and has been heating up over the past few games. I said it early in the season and I say it again now, Anthony and Seth are the best 1-2 punch in the league. We just need a consistent 3rd scorer to step up if we want to win the conference, but that’s for a different thread.
Anthony is currently in 12th place on the LU all-time scoring list, and should move into 11th place tonight as he only needs 5 points to do so. If Anthony averages 15 ppg over the rest of the season (given only 1 postseason game) he will finish 7th. He can finish top 5 if he averages 18ppg and we win the tournament which would give him 3 extra games.
Ant’s stats so far this year:
18.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 51.3% on field goals, 30.3% on 3’s, 63% FT’s

I really just cant honestly say he's playing well...he's had about 2 maybe 3 good games the rest were flashes of the past but he couldnt put 2 halves together
