krh nailed it. terrible weather, my truck was coated in ice. me and SJ almost wrecked on the way over.

we played horrible all game. the refs were bad, but definitely didn't throw the game. KO played terrible and needs to quit trying to be so showy. it seemed like we couldn't get a freaking rebound. just bad all the way around. i'm ready to get this one behind us

I thought the refs really hurt us in the first half when teejay got in foul trouble from those ridiculous offensive fouls, it made the rest of the offense completely out of sync.

ugh.

Though, to be fair- we KNEW this team was going to be inconsistent this season.

I'd say a bad loss to RadfUrd and losing to Winthrop AT HOME would be low points that we, honestly, had to at least anticipate as potentials.

the win over UNCA was probably one of those games people said we'd win when we were'nt supposed to.

all in all- I guess its good that we're competetive most nights, and the league really is up for grabs this year.

Someone needs to do one of those charts showing how Team A beat Team B but lost to Team C who actually beat Team B, etc

Missed the game. Very disappointed in the result. We have to put it behind us and hope that we beat some of these bad teams on the road coming up.

Posted this on the Winthrop board and wanted to post it here:
There's not much to be said about the game. The refs were awful, but they were consistently awful both ways. If any Liberty fan says the refs lost us the game, they're an idiot, and I'll say that straight to them.

One thing I want to say is that I have a new respect for Winthrop that I didn't have before. I have always had a problem with Winthrop because how I was treated the two times I've been to Winthrop. However, I have a new respect for the players and staff. After the game, Coach McGillan came over to our section and said, "You guys did a hell of a job. You're the best in the Big South." I know it was easy to say that after a win, but it's still means something that he took the time to say it.

Secondly, Taj has moved into my "Favorite Player Not On Liberty" spot. We made a sign that had a picture of him and TMart on it where TMart was feeding him something. We got it from TMart's Facebook. It's like this but a little different. On it, we put "Happy Valentine's Day" across the top and held it up to him during warm-ups and player intros. The entire Winthrop team and staff was laughing at it. We rode Taj whenever he was checking into the game and he'd just laugh everything off. After the game, a couple of us made it a point to tell him good game. After being interview, we yelled at him to come over to us and gave him the sign and he shook our hands. When he got back in the tunnel, one of the Winthrop coaches said that was the most creative thing they'd ever seen at a basketball game.

Yes, Winthrop won and that made it easy for the coaches and players to act that way. However, it makes things twice as fun when people know that we're just there to have fun and they have fun with us. So for that, thanks Winthrop.

I feel disgusted that we lost the way we did, especially on defense. Yes, I was there, and I thought it was kinda cool that CSTV interviewed a couple LUnatics, but, it's in the past now. Another day, another game.....

Taj seems to be the kind of guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously. And let's face it, if you're a basketball player and you're in a picture like that... you've got to be able to laugh at yourself.

ace may have had a good numbers game, but he did not rebound well and he played soft at times. too many stinking turnovers and not making wide open jumpers. we just did not have the energy and if we play like this on the road we will not win. winthrop is just too physical for us, and though it's hard to beat a team three times in a season i do not want to see winthrop in the tournament.

Agreed....TJ just didnt take care of the ball though, there were times when he was simply out of control.

as far as KO goes, you have to expect this from time to time...he's the most emotional player we have (which I'm not to sure that's a great thing) and when things go bad they'll go REALLY bad for a player like that...not to mention he's a walk on (while many feel like that doesnt matter it does...he's not used to having a role and now he feels like "Rudy" out there in the sense that he has to make the most of every minute)

I'd like to see them again just to give Ritchie and the guys another shot.

Anything can happen in the tourney- see: VMI v. BSOUTH; 2007

we only lost by 9, which isn't bad considering how we played. if we had played like normal we would have beat them by 10-15. for some reason tonight was just a horrible night. i wouldn't mind seeing them in the tourney so we can have another shot like medic said

The thing is, he's completely changed his game up from what got him playing time. He's trying to drive and dish and be flashy and make the Sportscenter play instead of just playing solid defense and taking the open shot.

Here's a positive for Ohman, he had more points than fouls tonight, that doesn't always happen. Ya'll are right he's there for one reason get free and let it rip, but like ya'll have said he wants to put it on the floor and make plays. The major problem with that is a lot of times he's not quick enough or athletic enough to get his own shot or get space so my question is what in the world makes him think he can get by somebody off the dribble? Another problem for him is that he doesn't have a real quick release, so combine that with his lack of quickness compared to a lot of guys guarding him and it's hard for him to get real clean looks and I believe it you look at the boxes you'll see that he really struggles against the upper-echelon of the conference. He just can't bring much to the table in those games, because he's limited in his ability. It's too bad he's not 6'7-6'8 with the same attributes, if he was we'd be talking about a different guy, but at 6'3-6'4 it doesn't work because guys are tons more athletic than him. And where was BJ tonight after that huge game on saturday?

I just want to point out something. We win when Smitty plays well. In the games that we won by more than five (CCU, CSU, UNCA, VMI), Smitty is averaging 19.25 points. In the games we have lost or were close (HPU at home), he's averaging 10.83 points. The games we have lost have been by 4, 6, 9, 1, and 7. With those extra 9.58 points, we win those games.

not being a smartaz:

would you go so far to say that our streaky offense, and by default- our win/losses- is/are directly proportional to ASMITH's performance?

would you say he has THAT big of an impact on the continuity of the team?

better yet- what is the "order of importance" to a winning performance for this team:
  • 1. ASMITH output
    2. ACE output
    3. TJ output
  • 1
  • 2
  • 3
  • 4
  • 5
  • 10
