Was looking at the standings and noticed that that 2nd seed for the BST. The hardest part is that we need to win out. The hardest games we have left are Winthrop, VMI, and Radford all at home. Winthrop and High Point would both need to lose (already figuring that Winthrop would have lost to us). That surprisingly is the easy part as they both play each other and UNC-A. If we can take care of business, it would bide VERY well for us.

Hopefully, this sounds like a roadtrip to the BSC championship game in Asheville. Anybody know what date that would be?

To say VMI, Radford and Winthrop are our 3 toughest games remaining is ludicrous. Winthrop, yes, but we still have two road games which I would say are tougher than VMI and Radford. Anyways, that's pointless to debate.

The championship game is on Saturday March 8. IMO 2nd or 3rd doesn't matter much. We get a first round home game against either Coastal, VMI, or Radford, and then we probably play Winthrop on UNCA's floor. We just want to stay out of the 4th place game so we don't have to play the 2nd round on the road. If we get to 9-5 (meaning one more conference loss) we should have 3rd locked up.

I agree that at this point in our program, ANY road game is tougher than ANY home game.

Point in fact:
Radford 88
LU 87
(Radford was winless in BSC)

LU 83
Ashville 54
(Ashville was undefeated in BSC)

Our remaining opponents on the road (Coastal and Chuck South) are clearly beatable, but we need to get a better frame of mind on the road and play more like we have been playing in the Vines.

In the BSC tourney having the 2 seed or the 3 seed makes no difference. You get the first round game at your place, then the second round is played at the conf #1 for ESPN reasons. So in essence 2v3 is at a neutral site.

The big difference is between 3 and 4. the 4 seed WILL have to play the #1 at the #1. the 3 seed will have to play the number 2 seed at the number one. Its one less away game for the 3.

Honestly the toughest games we got are vs Winthrop and @ Coastal. The other home games shouldnt be that bad with how we shoot at home, and to put a game against CSU next to a game against Winthrop is stupid.

How could they possibly have a conference championship game in that gym? It's just too small. Same goes for CSU.

There is. The Ashville Civic Center is primarily a minor league hockey venue. The BSC tourny was held there for 2 years back in the 90s. I'd guess it holds about 4000. Kindof a dump, but it would certainly be better than playing at the Justice Center. I can't believe they actually scheduled the women's tourney there.

That's not happening this year 14, but Greensboro's not too far.

The women's tourney was there last year, on TV, and will be there again this year.

Greensboro is a good 2 1/2 hours away from Asheville. Heck, Knoxville and Charlotte are closer than Greensboro.

Yes, they have TV capabilities at the Justice Center, but it's a logistical nightmare. The women's tournament there was a mess. There's hardly any room on the floor for press rows, and you can't get to your seat unless it's a media timeout, otherwise you're interfering with play because you have to walk along the baselines. Asheville did the best last year with what they could, but there isn't much you can do with the current setup. I will say the UNCA folks were gracious hosts for the event, and they went out of their way to make things run as smoothly as possible.

I would guess UNCA would try to find some way to get the Civic Center for the men's title game/semifinals if they hosted it, but that's just speculation. You would think the Big South would like to have more than 1,100 fans at its title game.

What did Ashville do to deserve to have the Women's championship at the Justice Center. That place looks like a dump.

As far as seedings are concerned anywhere from 1st thru 4th wouldn't make that much difference due to the parity in the league this year as compared to past year's. It is no longer the "Winthrop and the 7 dwarfs" situation this year. The top 4 teams included LU are pretty much equal in talent and are all capable of winning on any given night. Trying to get a home court in the second round might change it a bit but not that much.

The tournament is during UNCA's spring break...and yes...they want to keep it on campus. The Civic Center is a logistical nightmare for UNCA to host...and why would the conference want a 1/4-full building?

While I don't know the exact capacity, the Ashville Civic Center is not all that big. Sure, if VMI and Coastal played in the final, it would be more than half empty. What is far more likely is we will have UNCA vs. LU, HP or WU; a game which will probably draw 4 or 5 thousand. Remember, Ashville had to turn away 200 for a REGULAR SEASON game against LU at Justice. The BSC probably doesn't care though. I get the idea thatl KK's biggest priority is to have no empty seats seen on ESPN.

I discussed this with WEF and he made a good point----if UNCA hosts, would UNCA turn away 2,000 of it's own fans for a game, not to mention opposing fans? UNCA back in the 2000 season had a few thousand at the championship game in the civic center in Asheville. I'd say their following is bigger this year, I would think they'd almost have to move it. But who knows.

Of course if we can jump up to the second seed and somehow Chuck South, or whoever is the 8 upsets UNCA, the semis and finals would be HERE! :woohoo

Or we could be the 3rd seed, upset the #2 in the second round, and have the #4 upset Asheville.

Yes it would. The difference between the #1 and the #2 is huge. So is the difference between #3 and #4.

Stevev wrote:

There are many things wrong with that statement. First, have you seen how we play on the road? Have you seen how we play at home? HUGE DIFFERENCE. Second, the number 1 seed gets ALL SECOND ROUND games at their court. The 2v3 game is played at the 1 seed, so we cannot get home court in the second round. Thats why its a big deal whether we get the 3 or 4 seed, because with a 3 seed, you play Winthrop at Asheville and as the 4 seed, you play Asheville at Asheville. Its a big deal, because that chances of us beating Winthrop at a neutral site is much greater than beating Asheville at Asheville.

The semis are at the #1 seed's place no matter what..even if they lose the first round.

The championship, though, would be at the highest remaining seed...So the 2 or 3 seed could host the championship game if the #1 team gets knocked off early.

And I really would think that the Asheville Civic Center would have to be considered for the semis and/or finals if UNCA is hosting either round.

Back to Steve's question about why the womens tourney was in Asheville, I think they were one of the ones who was complaining the loudest about us hosting the tourney every year as the regular season champ. Can you name another league that has one set of rules for championship sites for the men and the women? That's Kyle for you.

I believe the league has some requirements about ticket allocations for teams involved in the tourney that downplay the homecourt advantage in such a tiny gym. But having UNCA host the title game is an embarrassment to the league. Hopefully it doesn't happen. The mens tourney is significant that the league should be putting it up for bids to different cities in order to get a free venue in a neutral location (likely somewhere in the Carolinas). That way the conference could avoid the humiliation associated with a UNCA, HPU, CCU or CSU gym being shown to the world on ESPN2 or U.
