UNC Asheville Ranked No. 22 In Mid-Major Poll
Just wanted to get a feel for our first conference game. How do you defend against Kenny George?

Take him out at the knees?
Kidding. I think you just work around him, use his lack of speed to your advantage.

Yes we can beat Asheville. We can beat anyone on our schedule, and I seriously believe that.
The way you stop Kenny George is to run. Play up tempo. Watch Carolina tomorrow night against them and watch how effective Kenny George is.

Yes we can beat them, the Mid-Major poll is worthless. I don't think we win at their place, but we will when they come back to the 'burg.
As Jon said, you run on Asheville to keep George from being effective. That is counter productive for us since we are so thin though.

But we do run. I think our boys can handle it.
And I think, if needed, we can go deeper than 7.
Anderson, Ohman, Holland, Soup, and Lafser should all be able to at least not screw it up coming off the bench.

Funny how you dont include your favorite player who would screw it up.
Also Armon Jones would not srew it up. Hed foul out before that happens

Lafser? Hah.
You must have missed Nyack. He checks in, brings the ball up court, and is immediately pick-pocketed! Please. If we have to play him, we may as well not show up.

Tim is too good to use against UNCA, we have to save him for our Sweet 16 game.
And Armon could probably find a way to get George to foul him, which might work, too.

We've got the players to run while Kenny George is in. He only plays 15-20 minutes a game. We can use Holland and Soup if needed during 5-10 of those minutes.

I have no doubt that we will beat UNCA, at least here. But they can easily take George out of the game. He's not scoring all of their points. He's just very effective when he's in there. But he's only averaging 22mpg anwyay. Garland and Smithson are both averaging 16ppg. Their overall team is pretty decent and from their stats, they're deep as all get up. Although they've played a lot of cupcakes so that is somewhat skewed. But it's a big mistake thinking George is their entire team. He's just the sideshow that gets all the attention.

Of course we can beat ashville... and yes you beat Kenny George by playing uptempo, but better than that, if you shut everything else around him down he will get tired from working and if you are making sure that everyone else around him get shut down then he isnt this AllStar that can carry a team haha Hes no Tyler Baker...
... Its just like when Jordan went to the Wizards, everything around him sucked and he was the only option... Not to compare him to Jordan... just a good case

Sure I would

Asheville has had a very good non-conference run. They appear to be just behind Winthrop this year, but that poll is worthless.

There is no question we can beat UNCA, but there are 3 things that we must do:
1. Take care of the ball
2. Shoot the ball well
3. Keep Alex out of foul trouble

That why i wanted to know what you guys thought. Thanks. I also think we can beat them at home.

And tomorrow you will get to watch the Big South Player of the Week get dominated by the ACC player of the year

Heck if i were unca and Kenny George had hands even a little better than Phil Ward i would just have the guy cherry pick......why not. Play a soft four man zone and pitch it deep to kenny.

That's ridiculous, he is best used on defense. He clogs up the whole lane.

I doubt it. Hansborough is going to get dunked on and his stuff thrown when George is in there. I think UNC will beat them badly and maybe make George irrelevent because of the super fast pace, but when they are in the half court set, George will dominate when matched up one on one.

Now Im not a UNC fan but i respect them. and you have to respect that everytime tyler gets the ball in the post he draws the foul. I think most of them are crap, but he draws it and he will do that easily on a 8 footer that cant move.

Nope.
There's no such team.
Ash
Eville, however, we can beat, but probably won't.

I full expect us to be 0-2 next week this time, but that doesn't mean it's time to jump off the band wagon. These next 2 games, will turn out to be our toughest 2 games remaining. Asheville and Winthrop are definitely the best 2 teams in the conference to this point. Hopefully we will be able to steal one though.
