Anderson can play

Liberty freshman shooting guard Jeremy Anderson, who has missed the entire season so far with a foot injury, has been cleared to play and will join the Flames for Saturday’s game at Campbell.

Anderson, a 6-foot-4 combo guard from Bowling Green, Ky., will give the Flames an immediate boost in outside shooting, even if he can only play limited minutes while he works back into shape. LU coach Ritchie McKay had initially hoped to have Anderson back by the time Big South play began, so getting Anderson some minutes in non-conference games will only help Anderson get accustomed to the college game.

I'm just hoping McKay doesn't use him too much and too early. I'm sure he won't, but as we saw last year with Brew a midseason addition can mess up the team's chemistry. I think that was more because of how dynamic Brew was, and that he deserved to be looked at to score. I think Anderson, right now in his career, will just give us some much needed depth.

we've all got to keep in mind that he is just a Freshman, and we've some quality starters right now. You've got to wonder how many minutes he would have seen anyway. Not worried about him playing too much.

I'm not worried about him playing too much, but if he can give us 10+ minutes consistently that's a huge bonus.

With Bannister firmly in place at point gaurd, there is no need to fret and hark back to last year's chemistry issues.

A huge bonus. I'm not expecting that much for a while, but I'd love it if he was good enough to contribute that right away. I'm the chicken little "we're too thin!" guy.

I expect him to be able to get 10 minutes by the new year. By then he should be pretty close to 100% game shape.

great to hear this news. they needed some more depth. i don't see a 6-man rotation being able to last for a whole season without fatigue becoming a significant factor. also good because you never know when one of the guards will go gown with an injury.

This will help our lack of depth situation a lot. You figure Kyle Ohman, Anderson, and hopefully Justin Holland can pick his game up a bit and we should be okay with depth. Still have a depth problem with the frontcourt though.

He may be able to play, physically.

But can he play?

For some reason I just cannot count on him contributing. No one here has seen him play and he's just a young freshmen who obviously hasn't been practicing, and obviously hasn't sniffed D1 basketball competition in his life.

That's why getting some time against Campbell, Nyack, and Kentucky Christian will be good for him. His reputation has always been he's a good shooter. I think the biggest thing with him is that he takes up some minutes and can give the other guys a break.

What's his background.

Anderson was the all-time leader at his high school — Warren Central — in points (1,991), field goals (698), 3-point field goals (279) and games played (149). His team won the Kentucky state championship in 2004 and lost in the state championship game in 2005.

He played in the Kentucky state championship twice. I'm pretty sure there was some DI talent he had to match up against along the way.
