The men tip off their season Friday night against San Diego St. The Aztecs play in the Mountain West Conference, and went 10-6 in conference play and 22-11 overall. They finished tied for third in the MWC, and advanced to the NIT. They are coached by former Michigan coach Steve Fisher. 3 of their top 4 scorers from last season are gone, and their top returning scorer is 6-6 226 F Lorenso Wade who averaged 10.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg last season. The Aztecs were picked to finish in a 4th place tie with none other than New Mexico in the preseason MWC poll. One of their starting guards, Richie Williams a Junior, has been suspended indefinitely.

Well, at least we know our coaching staff is extremely familiar with this team. I think that bodes well for us.

I just hope we keep the score respectable.

That's a completely different team than last year's. So it's not like we're expected to get blown out.

I think we can make this a good game. They are pretty young, only having 2 returning starters from last year. It would definitely be an upset if we were to pull it out, but I think it will be a pretty good game.

Thanks for getting this one started, JC.

Looking forward to seeing how our guys play on the road.

TJ and Smitty should be of comparable talent to their guards. It will be intereting to see if we can defend and rebound. Good luck to the guys.

We have to defend better than we did against Barton that is for sure. Hoping for a good tight game.

How do you know how we defended on Monday? We played good defense most of the time. I think when you force teams to shoot 2-3 feet beyond the arc you're doing pretty good. They just knocked down that shot all night. Most teams won't.

our defense definitely has potential. most of the first half our defense was pretty disciplined and forcing tough shots. We need to do a better job on guarding the perimeter.

Anything can happen in these early season contests. Upsets are not uncommon. More importantly, this team needs to grow and move forward with each new challenge, and hopefully something special will develope and peak in late February--early March.

LU down 13 to 10 with 7:30 left in the 1st half.

We're shooting 25% from the field, 20% from three and 50% from the line.

Fortunately, SDSU isn't shooting much better...right now.

I'm listening to the radio. And I have to say, if I ever meet someone from SDSt I will punch them in the face. Hall is set up like on top of their student section or something. All you can hear is this one very unclever guy.
