I'm beginning to wonder if all of our verbals are legit. But this kid must've liked what he saw on his official visit because he's now listed as a verbal commit by Scout:

Star Banner wrote:Floyd enters 'county's best' conversation

BY GREGORY BROOME
STAR-BANNER

CANDLER - Brolin Floyd wasn't thrilled about Vanguard star Freddie Riley's recent guarantee that he would be the county boys basketball player of the year. Not thrilled, but not really upset, either.

"I ain't worried about that, that much," Floyd said.

But Floyd, a rising senior at Shores Christian Academy and a former Knights teammate of Riley, doesn't hesitate to rank himself as the leading contender for the Star-Banner's annual honor. And in one word before a recent practice on SCA's small Southeast Maricamp Road campus, he did just that. Asked where he ranks among the county's best basketball players, Floyd's answer was succinct.

"First," he said.
One look at Floyd on the court indicates that his case is a strong one.

At 6-foot-5, Floyd has the muscular body of a post player, the sweet shooting touch of a swingman and ball-handling effective enough to man the point guard.

We have 8 scholarship players on our current roster who will have eligibility remaining after this season. That means if everyone were to return we could sign 5 new players. My guess is there will be "attrition" in both directions, with one or more current players transfering out, one or more of these verbals going in another direction, and probably a new name or 2 cropping up. Although McMasters, Curry and co. are good gets, something tells me there is a bigger fish to be landed. No information, just a "gut feeling".

evidently he's HOT
Coach McKay wrote:“I can’t tell you how excited I am that Brolin will be in a Liberty Flames uniform. He has a great body, size, strength and athleticism and a desire to be great. Along with a few other freshmen, I anticipate Brolin to have a major immediate impact on our team and program.”

Also a McDonald's All-American nominee. I don't know how many kids are nominees, but he must be good to get nominated.

it seems like each schools get's at least one nomination. back in college we had a dude get nominated because he was the best at his school and he was downright terrible. back in 2004 brookville had a guy that was nominated, he ended up playing half a year of D3 ball and never stepped back on the court...

Is it just me, or does the guy look like a black version of the Incredible Hulk? (from the 1970s TV show).

Floyd was on the local news tonight, WCJB, Gainesville, FL with an official signing. It's not on any local links yet, if I find one I'll post it. Floyd said he liked his visit, the school and the coaches.

Actually, that is just for his area, not the whole state, but he was named first team all-area and 6'9 HP recruit Chad July is second team. LU 09 prospect Gregg Gant is also first team.

Well we may have enough for a full blown highlight reel just from this kid and Smitty this season. But who's gonna be lobbing to these two?
