Season Outlook: The Barton College men's basketball team begins defense of its NCAA D-II National Basketball Championship in November with three returning starters, and 12th -year head coach Ron Lievense has added a talented cast of newcomers to what should be another strong team.

The Bulldogs went 31-5 last season, culminating with one of the most exciting finishes in basketball history. Barton, down seven with 45 seconds left in the title game to defending champ Winona State (which was riding a 57-game win streak), rallied behind 10 points in the final 39 seconds from Elite Eight MVP Anthony Atkinson, who scored the game-winning layup as time expired.

And they beat us last year.

that D-II championship game in March might have been the greatest finish to a college basketball game I have ever seen. Truly unbelievable how they won it in the final minute...

Hopefully we will show well in this game. I don't really care if we win or lose, that's not the point of the exhibition games, but I just hope we show well.

Is that the toughest exhibition opponent for any Big South school this season? I would think so...

Anyway, how about Barton? What should I expect to see tonight?

hopefully some defense and rebounding....or atleast an effective offense....not just jacking up shots

You'll likely see a very up-tempo, fast paced offense (think UNC when they get out and run). That's what Coach McKay likes to do. He likes the three pointer, so we'll likely shoot a lot of those.

On defense, you'll probably see a lot of aggressive man-to-man things. We'll likely press some and try to force turnovers.

One way I've been told about this team is like VMI last year, but with handlebars to keep it from going out of control.

good to know we will push the ball more frequently

If you look back to last year, and look at how we were playing when we were more successful (after the first VMI game), running, playing a small press occasionally, etc, that's what we'll be doing this year.
