With McMasters, Curry, and Smith all giving verbals this week, have we suddenly outgrown the talent level of the Big South Conference? I look for JB & RMcK to begin shopping for more elite conferences soon (if they haven't started already).

oh boy.

countdown to REALIST and WEF collective meltdown in 3, 2, 1...

(though, to be honest- I often read the same sentiment on the CCU-FB and WU hoops threads)

No, the countdown is on for our favorite landscaper to go off.

Keep in mind these commitments down arrive on campus for quite awhile ... and that's assuming we actually get their letters.

We have at least one more to give...and depending on the outcome of the Stephene situation--probally two.

Barring a transfer, I believe we might be full with these three new verbals in addition to our two Texans along with Derek coming in from JUCO. Obviously Anthony Smith's buddy in Plano is a soft verbal with him signing somewhere else for football as a strong possibility.

I really like what we have hooked. We knew we needed some bigs and to get another shooter or two in the backcourt is really nice.

I can just see the ACC/SEC/Big East at their respective meetings going, "have you seen the Liberty '08 BB class? Oh we gotta get them in here."

All of these players will fit in nicely with McKay's style of play.

I think that many will be pleasantly surprised by what can be accomplished with a total team effort on the court.

Ok so here's what we're looking at in '08 assuming these 3 sign.

Senior
Anthony Smith
Justin Holland

Junior
BJ Jenkins
Armon Jones
Tim Layer
Kyle Ohman
Tyler Baker

Sophmore
Oz Bja;dsklfjasd
Nathan Campbell
Jeremy Anderson

Freshman
Carter McMasters
Seth Curry
Austin Smith

So that's 13. And who knows what's going on with Oestreicher Am I missing anything?

oh and Stephene. I forgot about him. And we were looking at that other JUCO who I assume we will not be offering since we have enough for 2 teams now. Were we not expecting all of these guys to commit?

There was also another PG who verballed to us as well. By my count, including Derek, we would have 7 new players in 2008 if ALL these verbals were to sign. No way that happens.

You also forgot Kevin Smith, the SF from Anthony Smith's high school.

ok yeah, you're right. So I'm guessing some of the guys we have now don't have their 'ships renewed? (they're 1 year contracts) Does Layer get the old "family" scholarship? Same with Jones.

I think Jones was already a walk on as it was, I'm sure Layer is the same way. But even with that there's no way all of these guys are coming. It will be interesting to see who is and who isn't.

Tim and Kyle are walk-ons.

Derek's situation is contingent on his health and how well he developes in JC.

Sammy Jackson's a JUCO so he'll be a junior.

And I believe Ohman is a walk-on still.

yeah, I didn't see a thread on him and I didn't ever remember it but I gues I'll take your word for it. I edited and used * to indicate the walkons that I know about. I guess that makes it a little better. What's the limit 15 on a team total? Or is it 13. because we've got 18 listed.

LUConn I don't think Armon Jones is a Walk-on.

No you are thinking of Dominique Jones who is former coach Zach Jones' son. Armon becoming a walk-on is not an option unless he decides he wants to spend thousands of dollars on an education that he could get for free  .

Once again, Kevin gave us a soft commit that if he signed a hoops letter in the spring period it would be to Liberty. But he's a quality receiver prospect and he is likely to have a number of football offers closer to home.

I would suggest that the two Texans on our commitment list would be the least likely to end up on the mountain.

The great news is we don't have to wait that long to find out what is going to happen. The fall signing period is just a couple of months away.

Curry & McMasters
Ritchie McKay and the Liberty Flames have amassed a handful of commitments from the Class of 2007. Recently, the Flames added a guard and big that should assist in laying the foundation for future wins.
