Smith seems to really be very confident...I hope this carries over to the real season in a couple of months

Congrats!

Congrats on the W! Our squad is making that same trip with a LARGE number of new faces. I sure hope our coaching staffs get together while they are in the same facility. It doesn't make sense to me why our athletic dept.'s haven't at least tried a home and home deal over the years... Seems to me it would work on a number of levels for both schools.

I'll be following Liberty this year for sure.

OK, someone explain this to me. "Johhny Stephene did not make the trip after being declared academically eligible by the NCAA clearinghouse". As written, it doesn't seem to make sense. Was this a typo? Is Stephene ineligible?

:D I'm not opposed to that!

I just can't figure out why being declared ELIGIBLE would be a reason not to make the trip. Seems like it should be the other way around, but perhaps there is an explaination. Maybe he was waiting to hear from the clearinghouse, and the declaration came at the last minute and RMc decided he wasn't prepared. In any event, not a very good job by the SID folks on this one.

Congrats to Ritchie on a great outing. He is a class act guy. We will miss him at New Mexico. I got a good feeling that Liberty will give Winthrop and Radford a run for the money in the Big South. Best of luck to you Ritchie.

Ed Gomes played Hoops?

Sounds like he's academically ineligible, which is gonna cut deep on this team. This should open some time for Holland.

Winthrop and Radford in the same sentence? Radford's absolutely horrible.

Probably sometihng to do with high school.

Yes, Radford is a bad team and should not be in the same sentance with the Eagles. That is why they put Georgetown, Michigan, South Carolina, West Virginia, Air Force and James Madison on their schedule.

Believe me laxman, Radford did not schedule all those high major opponents because they have a powerhouse team and think they can beat them. They did it for the $$$$$; simple as that. They will be taking some major butt-whoopings. UNC-Ashville's MBB team does it every year and pretty much funds the entire athletic department.

I hear you olldflame, you are right, the bottom line is it is all about money and funding your athletic Department if you are Radford. With Marshall leaving Winthrop it will be interesting to see what they put together. I do however feel that this will be a solid season for LU and one that we have not seen in Basketball at Liberty for several years.

If there is a silver lining in losing another gaurd, it would be the improved play of BJ Jenkins, who is learning from Bannister and seems to be responding well to McKay's style and more disciplined approach. I think that he may be able to step in and help this team as a point guard when needed and he can score and make plays from the shooting guard position as well.

I can't agree more. I think we will have a solid season. Coach Mckay has already had such a positive response from the players. He will definately get the most from these guys because they respect him. In my opinion the trip to Canada was a time for them to see what worked and what didn't. Kind of a bonding of sorts. This team is going to be awesome.

How exactly does one pronounce this school's name? I probably should have asked before but it didn't come to me to ask until just recently

The school is named after the city where it is located and it is pronounced gwelf. I only know because I had a classmate back in the day at LU who was from there.
