Stephen Curry is the starting shooting guard for the Wildcats of Davidson College. Stephen (pronounced Stef-en), who previously attended Charlotte Christian School, is the son of former NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry.

As a freshman, Stephen led the Southern Conference in scoring, averaging 21.5 ppg. Curry was second in the nation to only one freshman in scoring, Texas' Kevin Durant, who ended up being the 2nd pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Stephen's scoring ability helped the Wildcats to a 29-5 overall record and a SoCon regular season title. On March 2nd, in the Southern Conference semi-finals, facing Furman University, Stephen beat the NCAA freshman record for 3-point field goals, with 113, topping the previous record of 109, set by Keydren Clark of St. Peter's. [1]

Curry eclipsed the school freshman scoring record, ringing in his 502nd point against University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on February 6, 2007. On March 15, 2007, Curry and the 13th seeded Davidson Wildcats lost 82-70 to the 4th seeded Maryland Terrapins in the NCAA Tournament Midwest Region. Curry was the leading scorer with 30 points.

Curry ended his freshman season with 730 total points, including 122 3-point field goals.

Curry was seletced for the USA team that appeared at the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Seth Curry is carrying on the family tradition. His father, Dell Curry, was a nice scorer in his 16 NBA seasons. Stephen Curry – Seth's brother – is playing well as a freshman at Davidson.

With Stephen averaging more than 20 points per game early in his college career, Seth Curry is a guy to keep an eye on in the class of 2008. He's a smart player who has confidence at the point guard position. He knows how to play. Curry had 14 points and five assists in the victory.

The term "combo gaurd" scares me. I think people coined that to make a player sound like he's good enough to play either the 1 or the 2. Normally, I've found that it means they're not overly good at either.

I understand what you're saying, but there is another way that you can look at this. Any point gaurd who can score and make plays with proficiency, and any shooting gaurd that can make plays and score with proficiency can both be defined as combo-guards.

So, in a way, the best and the worst can carry this label for different reasons.

For us, Curry would have the potential to be an exceptional high-scoring, play-making point guard. A player like this could potentially be the catalyst that turns this thing around and precipitates something very special for LU basketball.

Yes---Stephon Curry is a gutsy kid, a real leader on the floor, a big time scoring threat, and the kind of player that makes eveyone around him better.

Seth supposedly has the same body-type, and similiar skills.

He could be good, but I think the schools that did offer him are betting more on genes than what they saw.

I have followed Steph a little and I would say that many were not too impressed with him at this stage of his career either. He really wanted to go bigger than Davidson but wanted to also make sure he got a chance to play. From discussions with coaches and others that know him I think his lack of size and strength was a concern. His performance in the Southern Conference as well as the NCAA's have people revising history a little saying they knew he could do it. Similar to Larry Blair I would say in terms of how people felt about him coming out of high school as compared to how they felt when he played his 1st season. I will say that most people I have talked to about Seth have said what Realist is saying but that doesn't mean he is not a good pick up for us.

No, I agree with Scar, most people discounted the older brother too. Mostly b/c of the competition, they both played at a school where they weren't facing anyone worth anything, and both are really little guys (relatively speaking). Heck, Stephon would have been at Winthrop had Marshall not told him he would have to redshirt his freshman year. He's a gamble that's all, but aren't they all.

eh.. that's what they said about Stephon when he was a junior--small, undersized, ect... and so he ended up at Davidson rather than an ACC school. Steph may have been a late-bloomer in HS, but it certainly didn't turn out that way at Davidson.

We're being told that all of the Currys are late bloomers and Seth still has room to grow some. Also, he is currently at the same height as his brother and may actually surpass him by the time he is in college

Genealogical tables aren't everything, but this kid seems to have a lot going for him
