Now that I am running a lot outside, I find it absolutely incredible that a human being can cover that distance on foot in just 4 minutesCan you explain what you mean by he was put in a situation?? That makes no sense. Not to take anything away from Ace but he was put in a situation to get those numbers where Megan just took over a big game on the road and it was historical in the sense that it was UVA's first loss in the new building.

Any athletic big man is going to get a ton of points against them.Basically what I am saying is that if VMI didn't get the turnover, Ace got a layup and because VMI takes about 30-40 more shots per game and force you to take 20 or so shots more per game that 19 rebounds were readily available to him as well as getting a ton more shots and a ton of high percentage shots. Impressive numbers for sure but I saw players from Richmond and Mercer that were half as talented as Ace have big nights of shooting layups and putbacks due to the style of play VMI deploys. To further back what I am saying a week later, Ace was held to a dismal performance against the same team but in our own gym because VMI switched up their style of play.
kazport wrote:Wow Kaz, I guess you didn't watch VMI play last year. Their goal was to TAKE 55 3 point shots in a game! Most teams don't get that many possessions in a 40 minute game. They routinely shot 70-80 shots in a game as a team and opponents shot a lot too. My laptop crashed so I am on my desktop and don't have the stats in front of me but I can scurry some up a couple of days from now from my research covering their games. I saw them play a few times against teams other than LU and each night 1 person scored several points over their average. It is a high risk, high reward defense.SuperJon wrote:VMI's defense. SCAR wrote:The Mercer game had 2 forwards that had double doubles. One had 18 points 22 rebs and the other had 18 points 12 rebs. SJ and me were there and he can vouch that the kids that did that were decent players but neither was Tim Duncan if you know what I mean. That is 36 points and 34 rebounds from 1 position! Ace played 37 minutes so I give him credit for stamina at that pace! Maybe he can run a sub 4 minute mile too
SCAR wrote:AZ Reid had 32/15 one game and 32/25 the next. Everyone game you can look at their box scores and see these gaudy stats from at least 1 or 2 players. Winthrop had a guy Antown Harris that went 10-11 off the bench for 22 points in 22 minutes. I don't even remember what he looks like....Stats on the VMI website. You still didn't answer the question. In the Big South Conference last year (i willmake it clear) who else scored 40 pts and 19 rebs. in one game against VMI except ALex?????? Not last year or the year before or non conference games

He is long and athletic and can run like a deer just like Ace.You know this is supposed to be FLAMEFANS. Not lets find a way to make it seem like that was nothing. Not to mention the 11th double double of the year. Way to go. Maybe we should just talk about Larry BLair for the rest of the year.
kazport wrote:Again, I am not taking away anything from Ace the player. But you cannot argue against the fact that offensive stats are inflated in virtually every VMI game and in that context you have to say that Alex's feat is not as big as it would seem. If Josh had a dog sled pulling him around the track or wheels under his shoes when he ran the 4 min mile we would be taking into consideration the context. Context in sports is important when judging performances. Also are you implying that I am not a flamefan? That is really funnySCAR wrote:One last point. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Liberty junior Alex McLean (Bay Shore, N.Y.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while High Point guard Eugene Harris (Pittsburgh, Pa.) received New Balance Freshman of the Week honors for games played the final week of the regular-season, Feb. 19-24, it was announced Sunday evening by the League office.
McLean averaged 28.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in Liberty’s two road wins this past week to help the Flames jump into third-place in the Big South standings. He shot 67.6 percent from the floor (23-of-34) and collected double-doubles in both games. Last Wednesday vs. VMI, McLean had a double-double in the first half with 20 points and 11 rebounds en route to career-highs of 40 points and 19 boards against the Keydets, both national highs for the day. He also was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, including 8-of-8 at VMI. He tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds at Radford Saturday.
I hate you Merry Christmas :D  May[…]
