Any old hags know how long it's been since LU had a basketball player who was "paid to play" (aka, professional)?

I believe that Gabe Martin and Brian Woodson are both overseas playing for pay. I'd imagine that Juice is still out there playing somewhere as well.

Jason Dixon, Mike Coleman, Kevin Benton and Darryl Williams still play for play as well. I am quite sure there are others but I don't know the Hankinson era players very well. I know Phil Ward pretty well and he was on a team last year but I am not sure if he is still playing. Hope Segun was doing well in the ABA too from what I have heard.

SCAR, Sly and Lang are probably both jealous of your knowledge. If you were still in town, I'd try to get you to take a course so we could suit you up for Quiz Bowl with Fumble.

Not that Quiz Bowl is anything to sneeze at or anything but I want to get on that show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. I would win 300,000 easily on that show. Those questions are insulting most of the time plus you have 3 saves if you don't know the answer! I am enrolled in a Project Management Masters Certificate program at Villanova (online) so I wouldn't have the time with everything else but I wouldn't mind doing some Quiz bowl stuff....Sly is on the other side of the world in that country called Texas so he is not that connected as he would want to be. Lang has a "real signature" so I can't say I'm not envious

BTW getting back on topic for a second, those of us that have seen Brew up close are not the least bit surprised he is putting up numbers. The kid can score every which way from Friday. He shot 60% from the field in division 1 basketball for a season!!!! I don't care where you play or who you are playing, as a guard that is amazing! Basketball is a team sport though and being a scorer does not always elevate a team's play or translate to wins. Those on here that thing Brew didn't live up to the hype have their right to that opinion based on wins and losses but watching him play, he did everything that I expected. His jump shot never really came along but he still SHOT 60%.

Agreed Agreed Agreed. Couldnt have said it better myself. The jumper just never came because his wrist made it hard for him to work on it. Im more than sure he will get it, but hes obviously doing something right now

The thing about playing overseas is that there is a great deal of variation from league to league and country to country in terms of status, pay, and level of competition.

There are several leagues out there that wouldn't be worth the time or the low pay, however, there are more than a few situations over there worth taking a look at, if you have the talent.
Tony Costner would be a good example. Scar may be familiar with that name because Tony played at Overbrook HS and then St. Joe's U, both in Philly. Costner had a cup of coffee in the NBA and then had a very nice 15 year career playing in Italy, Greece, and France. The guy is now finacially set, but he is the exception, rather than the rule. If Brew ever reaches star status, playing at the highest level, then he'll be in a position to make some big time money

I love that show, too, SCAR, but those world geography questions and some of the math questions seem rather difficult to me, but I guess that's what your "saves" are for. I saw Foxworthy in concert in Roanoke around 1994--great guy!

I remember Tony well. He is a great example of money making over seas. Ed Cota is another recent example. He played in Lithuania with Woodson last year but he played in an upper league and was a major draw because of his connection with UNC and partly because of his ability but most think he is stealing money over there though. Danny Gathings and Whit Holcome Faye seem to be both doing well in their league in Europe too. I think they are both playing at a decent level over there. Dox is absolutely right. There is a wide variety of levels of talent in those various leagues. Money usually corresponds with the level of play...I forgot about lightbourne which I don't know how. I am getting old and stupid I guess. I believe Brew is going to make some good money over seas though. He can score on just about anyone and that translate well in terms of cash.

i know ed cota played with the ea allstars? his first year or two after he graduated. i wonder if that is a payed team? they play Duke sometimes as an exibihition game

A good honest opinion, SJ. Makes no sense to me though. Dwight worked hard, and played as a "team player"
all the way. I think anybody in the league would be glad to have him.

If we could just have Dwight the player then I'd welcome him in a heartbeat.

However, Dwight's got so much stuff off the court that he needed to move on and make some money to support himself and his family.

hey SCAR did you say hope segun was playing somewhere..this is seth dickey..i havent heard from him in about a year or so and when i talk to him on the phone i can barely understand him..haha that accent is strong..do you know what team he is playin for

Sup Seth...I guess I will be seeing you soon for the big family wedding . Anyway, yes Hope was playing in the ABA. Either coach Leary or Brian Woodson or both told me he was actually doing well there. I have not talked with him personally myself. Yes his accent was impossible to understand
