Here's another player Coach McKay apparently has been in on for some time that we have offered that would be a big get for us filling that need at PF:

Enoch Andoh
6' 8" 245 lb Power Forward
San Jose (CA) Archbishop Mitty High School or Tuscon (AZ) Salpointe High School
(He may have moved recently back home to Tuscon)
AAU Team: Tuscon-based Sporting Chance (Teammate of Austin Smith)

He had his own website up at www.enochandoh.com but it is no longer online. But thanks to Google's cached files I pulled the following from his site:
While Enoch Andoh's parents are from Ghana in West Africa, Andoh was born on June 22nd, 1990 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He has moved often in his life, but he met the game of basketball in the 7th grade as his family settled in Arizona. He has made a name for himself in Arizona, as he has climbed up rankings and as attracted college interest. However, his family now resides in San Jose, California and he attends Archbishop Mitty High School.

Two years ago, Clark Francis of hoopscoop.com had Enoch ranked 101st overall in the Class of 2008.

Here an excerpt from a story by the UNM Scout writer back in January:
Where to begin with Enoch. The guy is simply a monster in the paint. Known for his punishing play this shot blocking, posting, rebounding big man earned himself 2nd team All-Arizona as a sophomore for Salpointe Catholic (Tucson AZ) averaging 18 points and 8 boards while shooting at a whopping 70% from the field prior to transferring to Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose.

"I want to really work on my high post moves while continuing to improve on my low post game. That is where my strength is but I would like to be able to move my range out."

From the Arizona Rivals writer back in May:
Star player is Enoch Andoh, a 6-foot-8 forward being courted by a number of mid-majors. Andoh is a fundamentally sound big man that has the chance to get some high major offers by the end of the summer.

And here is a mention from back in February 2006 by Fullcourt Press:
Andoh (who earned a spot in the Top 25 Game at the 2005 Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp last fall) continues to improve rapidly and is really solidifying himself as one of the West Coast’s top soph post prospects. Andoh (a very good student – 3.8 GPA) has nice footwork and really knows how to use his wide body in the paint.

Enoch Andoh & Bawa Muniri : Rising stars
by Kristian Santiago - Mar 12, 2007

17 year-old Enoch Andoh, who has both parents coming from Ghana, is currently being recruited by Stanford, SE Louisiana, New Mexico and others including Oregon, Nevada, Yale, Washington State and St. John's. He is currently attending Archbishop Mitty High in San Jose, California after living in Arizona and playing for Salpionte HS there (averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds during his sophmore year). The 6-8 power forward has another year remaining before he makes a decision on which college he is going to attend, and with plenty of schools he can choose from , a great future is waiting for him.

Sly, if Liberty is mentioned anywhere in his possible list of schools, I must have missed it.

6'8" and 245 is pretty good size there. perhaps he could play as an undersized center some?

Sly,

On that Scout Profile, he's only listed at 205, not 245. I wonder which is accurate?

Based on the preponderence of mentions I went with the latter. This kid is an ox.

ive seen some big weight differences in my years, but ive never seen such a vast difference before. it's he's just 205, I think he would need to add some muscle to that frame. if he's 245, he would certainly be somewhat difficult to guard just based on sheer size.

This would indicate that only McKay has made an offer at this stage. Perhaps, we'll land him in the early signing period.

I wonder if McKay is gonna stick with recruiting the west coast, or if he's just trying the kids he had a relationship with at UNM? I assume that's where him and his assistants' contacts are but it seems like 3000 miles to LU is a tough sell.

Distance isn't as big of a deal on the West Coast as it is on the East Coast. Most Mountain & Pacific time zone kids are used to flights to get just about anywhere.

And there is no question that the current staff is working the kids they already had connections recruiting. That's not only prudent but also opportunistic. I'm sure they will be working the East Coast (and NY in particular) more as we go along. Stephene was somebody they were already onto before they arrived in Lynchburg and he didn't fit into the Left Coast mold.

I for one, have always been impressed with the talent that comes from the West Coast. Hanky couldn't coach them well, but brought some outstanding talent in from the West Coast.

The 3.8 GPA bodes well for the program academically with all of those NCAA rules about athlete's academics, graduation rates, et al.

To stress LU's academics, we should have played our Honors Program card--Rob Attaway was a member and Sam Gado graduated from the program.
