A Sea Of Red

We've discussed many tributes over the past 4 or 5 days on how we could honor Dr. Falwell. Many of those included football ideas. We all know that Jerry loved all of LU's athletic teams. I think it would be a great honor and tradition to honor his "chair" he always sat in in the Vines Center. Maybe rope it off, and have a plaque on it or something to that effect.

Thoughts?

Another idea could be to replace the plain one with a rather large and comfy one to make it stand out.

i think it would be a great idea. i think the current seat should be kept, but like jc said, rope it off maybe and have a plaque there. good thinking. i really like this one.

It was always comforting to look over my right shoulder at center court and see all of the students lined up to talk with him and get a picture. I will miss that sight. I agree something should be done to memorialize that space of the Vines.

that would be hard because anyone can walk through the vines center

i don't think there would be any problem with convo, services, games, etc... just as long as there was maybe a fancy lookin rope blocking off the seat, and a plaque. i don't think anyone would bother it, or be upset.

I don't think it needs to be roped off. Just make it a different color than the ones surrounding it with a marker of some kind. I'm sure Jerry would want as many seats close to the floor to be full of cheering fans IMHO.

regardless, i think something outta be done. whether it be changing the color or marking it off or something else.

I saw strip it down to it's original finish and have someone carve-out Dr. Fallwel's seat professionally with something with the likes of "LU's #1 Fan" (I'm sure Gary won't mind).

Another idea. Pull out the chair and put it in a glass enclosure (kinda like a big trophy case) and have it sitting close to the main entrance so everyone that comes in will see it. We could also sorround it with pictures of Jerry attending some of the more important athletic events at the Vines and the crowd surfing picture, etc. If it is roped off, it only takes one whacko to go and deface it some way, or someone sitting in it to be funny. Personally I wouldn't want to take a chance on that.

i agree with sly. a different color would be fine. jerry would want those seats filled.

I was thinking the same thing. We could call it "Liberty's 6th Man" and have a real nice dark red leather fold down chair that would always be empty. THAT would be cool. PLUS, when we are hosting the final game to make the tournament, it would be a GREAT TV piece.
