it's been approved by one comittee and now it just needs the OK from the rules comittee. This bring the advantage back to the major teams who can get decent big men. Does this hurt RM style of play? I think this is a mistake by the NCAA.

I don't like it. I love watching the 3 ball. But as long as they don't move it back to NBA distance I think it won't change the game too much.

I don't like this move. I'm sure it's to move it back about a foot or so to where it has been in some early season tournaments over the past few years.

I think it would hurt RMK's style, but not too terribly. Most guys that can shoot good from that deep, one foot won't hurt too much.

If memory serves correctly, the present college distance is 19 feet, 6 inches; what would be the new proposed distance?

20'9". This is gonna make for one ugly looking court with 2 lines. Speaking of which, it just took us years to get our court painted. Hopefully it's still under warranty.

many times players unintentially pull up from a good ways behind the line anyways. i don't think it's too terrible of an idea.

I really don't think it will make that much of a difference. If you are going to shoot a 3, you are going to shoot a 3 regardless of the distance.

I don't think they should move it but for the record it is 19' 9".

I think it's stooopid. The floors for the women are going to have that line on it, too, and I think it will look dumb. Besides that I think they should keep it the same regardless.

Who cares how it looks? That's not a reason to not move it back.

Men's college basketball should play by the international 3-point line which I think it what they're moving it to.

So, the line will now be three inches longer than the international line, giving high school players an ability to graduate to an international line, a college line and, perhaps, in some cases, to the NBA line of 23 feet, 9 inches.

who care about international rules? It's our sport. Should we adopt their gay trapazoidal lane too? If a foot doesn't make a difference like you all think, than why not just keep it where it is?

now correct me if I am wrong, the high school and college three point line are exactly the same....why shouldn't they move it back a little for the college game?? Its a step up from high school and the three point shot should be a little more challenging then it was in high school...I have actually thought this way for a while....I think its a good move....and I am actually surprised that more of you guys don't agree

That is because the game is great right now so why tinker with it? Do you see baseball changing the distance between home plate and 1st base at the minor leagues, the pros and high school? The only thing they have done is moved the mound higher or lower over the years. Hockey has changed dramatically in terms of the dimensions of the net, the size of the crease etc. but that is because a change was warranted to infuse life into the game. College basketball is breathing rather well so again, why would they mess with it? When they added the line in 85 and also the shot clock, those 2 things made the game what it is today. It was time for those changes but this 3 point line deal doesn't seem timely to me.

I agree with Scar and Luconn. Why mess with something that is not broke. With the must attend college for one year rule in the NBA and the 3 point line moving back, the pendulum is swinging back in favor of the major conferences. I think we are going to see less and less "mid-majors" make deep runs in the tourney and get wins in the regular season. I also don't buy that moving it back a foot is not going to affect anything. It will result in less 3 pointers made and that is the great equalizer in college basketball.

They absolutely need to widen the paint. The college game doesn't produce a lot of fundamentally sound big men anymore because of the lack of room to work. The only big man in the high-majors these days with any kind of decent footwork is Tyler Hansblow (and even so, he shuffles his feet most of the time).

If you're going to push the line back, widen the lane.

I disagree, I don't think you can compare the 3 point line in basketball to the pitchers mound...If anything you can compare it to homerun distance...and because of people hitting the ball further they have pushed the fence back in many parks...

The three point shot has become such and easy shot for college players to make that it doesn't even seem like it should be worth 3 points...

Also, moving back a foot really isn't that big of a deal, a lot of kids stand back about a foot behind the line anyways...sometimes even further

I was going to say I understand where you are coming from with your opinion scar, but I don't

A shot that is worth 3 points should progressively get harder as you move up a level..much like as you move up through baseball the fence gets pushed back further and further away so its harder for players to hit that homerun

just my opinion....

:dontgetit

Net has always been 4'H x 6'W
The small changes to the crease area in the NHL was to protect goalies.
I agree completely with your overall premise that there have been tweaks to the game.....

Should we also make the court bigger and raise the hoops higher? Dunking seems a bit easier these days too. Pretty much everybody who plays on a DI team can do it.

I have actually thought about that before, but that would throw off shooting completely.....

the court is longer in college then in high school though

we disagree man, i am not going to change your mind, you aren't going to change my mind, and nothing we can do is going to change what the NCAA says

do you think the NBA line should be moved back to the high school/college length???

I dont agree that international has a different line...all non professional sports should have the same 3 point line and then all professional sports as well

I don't think that a different level of basketball should influence where you put your line. With the size and athleticism of NBAers it would get a tad crowded squeezing everybody in and around the smaller arch. I don't think they pushed it back so that it would be "harder than college".
