i can imagine that if there was some kind of JV team on campus, i'd know about, or it would be a topic of discussion on the boards. so i'm assuming there is not one.

i guess the practice team is the closest thing to it. does anyone know the requirements (if any) for a school (LU) having a JV basketball team? i'd think a JV team would compete against other schools... corect? do other BigSouth schools have them? just curious about the topic... so i thought i'd ask.

JV would lead to Title IX issues. UNCA tried it back in the mid-90's for one year...and had to shut it down for those issues. Many D-II and D-III run JV programs in many sports to boost enrollment (recruiting players under false pretenses that they would actually have a snowballs chance of playing varsity).

i just read online about title ix... but i do not see how i would cause issues with that. can u explain?

i didn't realize that schools actually recruited players onto a JV team. i knew that ocassionally a JV player may move up to walk-on or something on the school's team, but i was not aware that players were actually recruited for anything other than the actual team.

The schools will engage in a practice called "over-recruiting." Bring in more you need and put the rest on "JV" or what some call the "developmental" squad.

For the Title IX, you just increased participation in a male sport without a corresponding increase in a female sport.

The head coach at UNCA at the time they started had been an Asst at UNC and got the idea from them.

Dickens your sig is idiotic and I think you should change it, a lot of us would have a sig 5 pages long if we were to post every time we were correct about something or proved someone wrong

ANYWAYS....back to the topic...a TON of schools have them, I've had several friends play for VT's and other schools around the area.

most JV teams play teams like highschool prep teams. I am sure that Nathan C. who is coming to LU from Hargrave faced a good amount of JV teams.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is one of the purposes of the JV teams. That way you can get these 5th year kids on your campus without it counting as an official visit.

there are more important needs around here than a club basketball team and/or club basketball facility.

But if some students want to start a club basketball team, more power to them. There's nothing wrong with that.

Some of our intramural players could field a very competitive club team.

Super, would that include or exclude Bryson's prowess on the hardwood?

When I saw this topic, I thought it was going to be talking about the Hankinson era.

That's a low blow, EagleFan--and it still hurts. Thankfully, most of our current students have no memory of the Hanky era.

Come on, guys. If we can't laugh at the Hanky era then we need to get over ourselves. We had a some great guys play for us during that time, but the results are undeniable.
