Most of us knew about the kid from Georgia. He was in town on Saturday and played with the team.

Good to see some good things happening. Don't know what we are going to do with all these guards, but I have confidence something will work out for the best.

Synopsis for those who don't know what SJ is referring to:

Was he already being recruited or is this purely RM's doing?

Those who have seen him have said he's not real impressive.. would be interesting to see some other reports.

It appears that we will be losing at least one more person on scholarship as some on here thought.

Does anyone have any more info on the kid Stephene than what is mentioned? I'm going to see what I can dig up.

Is Derek Oestreicher considered a transfer and does he have to sit out a year? Of does this get waved because he was a medical redshirt.

so he is both sitting out a year AND able to play because of his medical redshirt???

he's got to sit. The medical redshirt counts as redshirting. The rule requiring you to sit out a year due to transfering is completely seperate from that. What I do not know is how many years of eligibility he'd have left. My guess would be 3.

He will have 3 unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA granting him a 6th year of eligibility, which is extremely unlikely. It usually takes extreme circumstances to be granted a 6th year.

LaGrange (GA) Sound Doctrine Christian:

Johnny Stephene 6-2 180 CG - This left handed combo can stroke jumper from arc or attack hoop with crossover and drive. He has solid mid-range game as well. Handles it well enough to run point. Mids & higher should check him out.

As soon as RMc was hired, I checked to see what recruits were connected to UNM and this kid's name came up. So Coach McKay has been on him for a long time. The scholarship wasn't given out for nothing.

Perhaps he could be our point after TJ is gone. That will be our most pressing need for 08-09, including some depth up front.
