This is what many of us had been suspecting.

Ritchie McKay announced Dale Layer has filled the last remaining assistant coaching spot on his staff.

Layer has spent the past nine seasons at Colorado State, seven as a head coach where he took over for McKay after the 1999-2000 season. While with the Rams, Layer had a 103-106 record, including a 17-13 mark this season. In 2003, Layer led Colorado State to the Mountain West Conference Championship and its first NCAA Tournament bid in 13 years where they fell to Duke in the first

Well done. I'm looking forward to this ride. Two head coaches from the MWC on our staff. Layer will be a great addition especially with his 7 years of head coaching experience. He will allow McKay to lead with even more confidence. Having his two outside guys be people he's known for so long and trust so much will be huge. Coach McKay's confidence moving this program forward has got to be at an amazing level right now.

"Greg who?"

A very good crop of coaches.

Should provide some recruiting bonuses with former MWC coaches on staff.

I have to say that is an impressive staff for a Big South team. Hopefully having coaches of that caliber will attract an increasingly higher level of talented christian athletes.

Indeed...of course what does this do for the kids that the old staff recruited and had on their list for the class of 07 or 08?

And keep in mind these guys were recruiting kids for their programs already and have established relationships. I'd love to see us start pulling in players from their traditional recruiting grounds. Especially Layer since he always works Houston hard.

Coach Layer arrived in Lynchburg last night, and has begun doing workouts with the team while Coach McKay and Soucie are back home with their families.
