Why not get a current big time assistant...
...perhaps one with previous D-I head coaching experience.

Heck...
...maybe even one with intimate knowledge of the Big South and has actually guided a team to the dance.

Ladies and germs...
...I present to you, the official candidate of Fumblerooskies...
...a man who, in 16 years as a head coach, compiled a 289-175 combined record at those institutions, a .623 winning percentage...
...Associate Head Coach of the Clemson Tigers....

You know, I almost threw his name out there when the opening came about...

I almost threw up in my mouth when I thought of his name, too. I'm hoping those that remember him and his ego from RU will get a kick out of it.

Fumble, with that line of reasoning, we could even suggest the return of an assistant coach at Indiana named Meyer. But we both know that's never going to happen.

FOLKS...
...I am JOKING...trying to add some needed levity.

I may DETEST Dr. Ron more than anyone on here (although I reckon SCAR would be a close 2nd)

Yep. Not a fan of the good Dr. He is ok but he and I got into a mini shoving match back when he was at Radford after a close game.

Dr. Ron is a solid coach, but a jerk. i remember one game at the vines where he ran over and said something to jerry when our fans were taunting radford's bench.

I was sitting right behind Jerry when that happened, Ron was complaining about the "you boy" chant that the students were yelling after every foul against Radford. For some reason he thought it was racist even though it was being aimed at all players equally, regardless of race. Everyone with the Radford jersey on got it.

I was sitting at the press table and me and another guy thought Bradley was coming towards us, we were definitely talking some smack, he was a clown that night no doubt about it. We were worried at first, then realized unless he was a lip reader, there was no way he heard us.

Who is this man?

And why are some people saying that he will be our next head coach?

Technically, he is still coaching, but he is apparently on the way out after his conference tournament.

Richie McKay ... was the head coach when Portland State re-instated basketball, quickly bolted for Colorado State, then New Mexico. Couldn't quite get UNM back to the level it was in the 80s and 90s. Unrealistic expectations in Albuquerque, though. That program will never be a major DI player again, especially seeing as the Mountain West is widely regarded as a mid-major conference.

Yea, I see what you mean, McKay doesn't seem like a good fit. I wouldn't want someone who has trouble with his temper, players habitually leaving and who just got fired either. Why would we want anyone like that at LU? :D

Wow, after reading that, it looks like McKay comes with his fair share of baggage.
McKay is quoted in the article as desiring to move on to a smaller gig. The rumor around here is that he is on JB's short list.

Chris Lang wrote:Having covered Western basketball for a good portion of my career, I'm not sure McKay is the guy you guys want. He's a bit of a hothead. He never stayed long enough at any of his programs (PSU, CSU, OSU) to build a program. McKay is the sort of guy who would take the job and treat it like Matt Doherty at Florida Atlantic. He'd try to leave the first chance he got. Not to mention he's getting fired for dragging New Mexico to a level it hasn't been in two decades. Why would you want him?

Now if Ray Giacolletti, who is resigning at Utah, has any interest, Liberty would be smart to give him a look. He's had success at the mid-major level and his players at Eastern Washington loved him.

Chris, you make several valid points here.

It seems as though, Mckay, at one time was one of the hottest young coaching talents in the nation. He's still only 41, so I'm sure that he'll reemerge somewhere. He'll most likely show up in a smaller venue as suggested in WWJFD's acticle.

Unless they find someone clearly better, I hope we have enough sense to stick with Sherard as the head guy and give him the full commitment.
