VMI stuns LU, and then knocks off HPU to advance to final

Big South Conference Tournament Semifinals: Junior forward Reggie Williams played all 40 minutes for No. 6 VMI, delivering a superb performance. He finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the Keydets to a 91-81 victory against No. 2 High Point, a significant upset in the Big South. Four other Keydets scored in double figures for VMI.

Wow. VMI @ Winthrop is starting to get interesting.

VMI played really well, but HP just imploded with about six minutes left. Bickering with each other on the court, no passing, they felt the pressure and wilted.
It could be a good game on Saturday, but it gives me the feeling of the WU-HP final about 5 years ago when 6 or 7 seed HP pulled a couple of upsets, but then lost to WU by about 25 in the final.

Ok, here is what is interesting. What VMI team does Winthrop prepare for? The high flying fast breaking VMI of the regular season or the pack it in Zone team of the tournament??? That might keep GM up for at least 5 minutes later at night!!

I'd prepare for both. I would love to see VMI try to slow it down in the first half and come out running and gunning in the 2nd half.

My alarm went off this morning and I swear I heard Jerry Edwards say that HPU advanced to the finals. You know, this really makes Duggar look like some coaching genius, but does that mean he's an idiot for not having done this all season? I guess he wouldn't have been catching teams off gaurd.

VMI vs. WU

Thanks to all for the support and the best wishes. I hope we can represent the state well tomorrow.
A WU fan asked on our board why Duggar didn't run the zone sooner and my thought is that we couldn't have because we had to develop that aggressive mentality from pressing and trapping first. While we thought they looked "tired" going into the tourney, I think that playing up-tempo all season has actually conditioned our guys physically while improving our shooting and passing.
Kind of ironic that most of our Alumni were clamoring for the Princeton-style offense before the season started.

Let's not get crazy Killinem

. AZ deserved it but Reggie has always been one of my favorite players in the league. I would say if VMI had finished in the top 3 or 4 then Reggie would have deserved it. I do think he should have been Freshman of the year and probably 1st team last year. AZ carried their team to just 3 losses in conference and swept the season series with everyone but Liberty and WU...Howeva since I am a closet VMI fan, I will be cheering for them on Sat.

I think I deserve to get crazy on this one, Reggie finished 3rd in voting behind AZ and Blair.... Reggie avg. 30 points in conference play, look it up! Reggie was 4th in conference in rebounding, look it up! Reggie avg. over 4 assists, look it up! HERE is the big one, Reggie shot over 50% from the floor!! His team finished sixth and was picked to finish 9th behind the LU girls. He plays poistions 1 thru 4 for his team, look it up!
Don't say his numbers are scewed because of the style of play... VMi just went slow this week and Reggie had 23 on LU and 28 on High Point.... If anybody's numbers were scewed it was AZ last Saturday night when he had 32 pts and 25 rebs.... or Alex's when he had 40 pts and 19 rebs..... See VMI always gives up big numbers to somebody when they play helter skelter.... VMI can score no matter what style they play!
What now Scar....

TBGB, I know how you feel. I was like that in '03 when we lost in the last second to Radford. That whole tournament was at the Vines, and I had already bought my ticket for the championship. I went to the game (Radford vs. UNCA), I didn't even care. I thought LU should have been there, and would have won it.

I asked Rocco when he's going to use that for football...he said it might be a while

Yes, it's a line from our favorite cheer, and it's been around forever.
I learned it as a Rat in the 70's.
But I'm figuring that's not the "cussing" to which Tyler is referring?

Nah, at VMI we were told by a drunken cadet that Jerry Falwell was the f-ing Anti-Christ and then he spewed some drunken rant with a ton of f-bombs in it, then proceeded to shoot free throws during halftime.

You must be taking hallucenogens or something.

I'd like to think I might be the best analyst in big south history but certainly not the best player...Technically I didn't even play in the big south although we played most of the member institutions back then. Killenem might be on something too calling me out on ffdotcom where my peeps have my back
