So far JB has been very tight-lipped about who potential candidates to become head coach might be. But based purely on speculation on the board, I'll try to keep a running list of guys that COULD possibly be in the mix.

Tim Carter
Assistant Coach - Florida State
Longtime UTSA head coach now on the staff at Florida State. In 11 seasons in San Antonio, he took the Roadrunners to the Dance twice as champions of the Southland. Spent time as an assistant at Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Houston & Northwestern before taking over UTSA.

Image
Scott Cherry
Assistant Coach - George Mason
One of Jim Larranaga's lieutenants who has spent seven seasons at GMU. Cherry is familiar with the Flames having played against us in the '94 NCAA Tournament as a member of the North Carolina team. He was a 4-year letter winner for the Tarheels and a member of the '93 National Championship team.

Image
Mark Cline
Assistant Coach - Oklahoma
Jeff Capel's top assistant who knows Virginia well after working as an assistant at VCU, ODU & VT. And as Scar pointed out, his brother played for the Flames back in the day.

David Conrady
Associate Head Coach - Chattanooga
Before becoming an assistant at Chatty he was head coach at Newberry and has worked on the staff of a number of Christian colleges.

Image
John Cooper

Three years on Auburn staff where he currently works alongside the much discussed Dickie Nutt. Prior to joining the Tigers, he spent one season at Oregon after six years working with Barber at South Carolina under Eddie Fogler. Played for Fogler at Wichita State back in the day before beginning to coach.

Rick Duckett
Assistant Coach - South Carolina
He obviously has connections to the man making the hire so he's likely under consideration to some level. Before arriving on the Gamecocks staff, he was head coach at a pair of DII schools at Winston-Salem State & Fayetteville State.

Ray Giacoletti
Former Head Coach - Utah
Recently fired after 3 seasons at Utah where he took his first Utes team to the Sweet 16. A protege of Bob Bender he also had great success at Eastern Washington before heading to Utah.

Pete Gillen
Television Analyst/Former Longtime Head Coach
After leaving UVa, the 60-year-old still lives in Charlottesville and is very familiar with the program. The former Providence & Xavier coach is extremely qualified but considered unlikely to be our next head coach.

Zach Jones
Assistant Coach - Liberty
Spent the past two seasons on Dunton's staff at LU. Highly decorated high school coach in California and assistant at the JUCO level in San Diego. Prior to his coaching career, he played professionally in the NBA and a number of other pro leagues.

Rob Lanier

Recognized as a top notch recruiter in stints as top assistant at Texas & Rutgers, he also has head coaching experience at Siena.

Stephon Leary
Head Coach - Palm Beach Atlantic University
Former LU player & assistant coach under Dunton who is finishing up his second season as head coach at PBAU where he is leading the transition to Division I. Starting from scratch he's struggled thus far down in Florida.

Cuonzo Martin

Former Boilermaker great as a player turned coaching staff member. He had a couple of cups of coffee with the Bucks & Grizzlies in the NBA before returning to his alma mater under Gene Keady.

Ritchie McKay

Just let go at New Mexico so he'd be available right away. He has a long, distinguished career with head gigs at Portland State, Colorado State and Oregon State.

Steve Merfeld
Former Head Coach - Evansville
Jim Larranaga protege who led Hampton to that stunninh NCAA upset of #2 Seed Iowa State back in 2001. He "resigned" March 3rd after a 14-17 season with the Purple Aces. 5-Year record at Evansville was 54-91.
