overrated

This chant was going strong at the end of the game on saturday.

First of all, even if HPU was ranked #1 in the country, that cheer belittles our teams acheivement. But more importantly, since they're not ranked and get no attention in any publications, that chant doesnt even make any sense! I swear, sometimes our crowd has the fan IQ of a hard boiled egg. It sounded like it was coming from right next to Baker's bunch. I hoped you guys would put a lid on those folks before it spread, but for all I know you joined in. I guess I should just be happy there was noise going on.

The other people in Baker's Bunch wanted to start it once and they did (I stood quiet because that chant degrades our team more than anything) but it didn't catch on. The one that caught on came from the students right next to HPU's students.

I tried to start the "Go Home H P U" chant and the "We have foot-ball" but they didn't catch on. Half of the people didn't even know HPU didn't have football.
I'll chime in on this

If anyone watched the video feed from the game this year at HPU... their play by play guy made it sound like they were the best team since the undefeated Indiana team of the 70's. "This is our longest winning streak in our history" We are playing so well. It was a freaking joke. I'd like to hear that announcer now. Well we just finished a 1-2 trip in Virginia. We are still the best. I have no problem with the overrated chant, becasue their record proved but only one thing "Overrated!"

but that's just it, their record is what puts them at #2 in the conference. They earned it and they weren't knocked out of #2 just yet. They were #2 in the preseason so really they're rated correctly if anything. To say we were chanting at their play by play guy is giving our fans a little too much credit.

i told HMO the same thing...the overrated chant was ridiculous, as well as the key shaking by the "sweet 16"

Generally I am a fan of key shaking. It's just a form of taunting when we have the game in the bag. But we were so poorly handling the last 3 minutes and the lead was nearly cut in half, their timing could have been better. up 20 they were shaking the keys, 2 minutes later, up 11 they're shaking their keys. It looked pretty foolish.

agreed. the timing was horrible

They jumped the gun on that. You should NEVER do a "leave taunt" (i.e. keys, singing, start the bus, etc) until less than one minute left.

yeah...I agree...the whole key thing and "warm up the bus" chant is great, but people get carried away with that stuff...less the minute should be the rule...
I don't know who started the over rated chant, but sometimes its fitting, against HPU not so much...I mean they are second in the BSC but nobody really is putting them far above us...so it just kind of doesn't fit...I also have noticed people on this board are more critical of chants then I...I just enjoy seeing our students getting into the games....thats the most important thing to me...they may look like idiots, but with time I am sure things could get better...
alright, thats my 2 cents

Unless we were taking down the Gators, this chant is extremely lame. I have always felt it was not only in poor taste but rather played out. Come on students, show some originality.

I agree w/ PostIt
just glad to see 3k or more showing up and cheering. We're not there yet, but thats double or even triple the crowd other conf schools draw on a GOOD nite

Yeah, the overrated chant was a bit much. It was very deserving at the last home football game. HPU? Not so much.

CSU was in the top 25, that's why we chanted it there. I didn't like it then, but I could see the justification.

The chant is plain ignorance. High Point is not ranked or rated anywhere. They have earned there 2 spot with wins, and not opinions of other coaches and writers. Anyway, 2nd best in the Big South is not something to write home about either.

No keys or taunting of the trip home until under a minute and there's no chance of them coming back.
Man law.

The exception is if the score is 69-30 midway through the second half (see: Big South Championship game 2004)
