Ok, I'm a game late for this, but after half of the season, what's your first team all conference?

Reggie Williams - 30.8pts (1), 8.0reb (4), 3.53 assists (9)
AZ Reid - 26.9pts (2), 10.2reb (1)
Larry Blair - 20.6 pts (3), 4.4reb (19), 3.22 assists (11), 2.22 steals (4)
Michael Jenkins - 16.6 pts (7), 4.8reb (15), 2.89 assists (13),
Craig Bradshaw - 14.7pts (12), 7.3reb (5)

(#) - ranking in conference

Reggie Williams - VMI
Arizona Reid - HPU
Larry Blair - Liberty
Chris Oliver - Radford
Michael Jenkins - Winthrop

I was going between Oliver and Bradshaw. Bradshaw just had the better stats.

Oliver is averaging 18 and 8 and he has been a double double guy for virtually the last 3 seasons.
Bradshaw is 12 points 6 rebounds. Gotta go with Chris Oliver IMO. Can't go wrong with Bradshaw though. If Brew keeps playing the way he has been you may have to consider him for 1st team but it is hard to get 2 guys on the first team in any conference esp. if they are not in 1st place.

Brew's numbers are up there, just not quite as good as Blair's.

I put Bradshaw in there because he's had similar numbers (albeit a little lower) on the best team in the league. Sometimes it isn't as hard to grab the numbers when you're in last place.

As we've determined in year's-past, the Big South cares only about numbers. The player-of-the-year award always goes to the guy with the best numbers (even if they're not the best by much), and even if his team is dead last. That's why Coastal Carliona had like three POY winners in five years, or four in six, something like that, and never finished in the top half of the conference.

If y'all want to know who the Big South is going to dub its All-Conf team, check the conf.-only numbers.

POY: AZ Reid (No contest)
2 - Reggie Williams, VMI
3 - Larry Blair, LU
4 - Chris Oliver, Radford
5 - Michael Jenkins, Winthrop.

last year Hocolm-Faye was second team after leading the conference in scoring, do you guys think the same thing will happen to reggie for them to sneak Brew, or T-Mart in there?

I don't think it will happen to Reggie. People actually like him. I think Whit felt a little bit of sting for his attitude on the court. That may have swayed some votes. Reggie is a good guy. AZ will probably win it though because his team is winning. Winning the scoring title does not mean you are the MOP. Looks like most of you guys agree with me so far. Smart 8)

Shoe ins for 1st team: AZ, Reggie, LB. After that it could go a number of ways IMO.

Jenkins is a lock I would think, in fact, I think he should get consideration for POY, but Reid's numbers and HP in second almost assure him of it.

Blair is a lock, but I think a lock b/c of career performance, I'm not sure I'd put him on first team this year. Reggie is definitely a lock, you just can't leave the nation's highest scorer off the first team.

I agree with all of that Realist...So 4 locks. Only 1 spot left. Time to start thinking of a second team.

Oliver - Radford
Bradshaw - Winthrop
Martin - Winthrop
Brewington - Liberty
Leasure -Coastal
Chavis Holmes - VMI
Matt Murrer - VMI
Mike Jefferson - HPU
Alex McLean - Liberty
Joseph Harris - Coastal
Dewayne Jackson - Charleston
Reggie McIntire - Radford
Bryan Smithson - UNCA

Battling for 5 spots.

I would go with

Oliver (plays incredibly when matched up with guys his size)
Leasure (pretty steady unless the game is on the line)
Jefferson (gets to the line when he's off shooting, which is a lot)
Sonko (doesn't he have better numbers than Harris?)
Mclean (pretty steady against guys his size, much like Oliver)

Brewington not yet, but if he keeps up the pace of the last couple games yes. I wouldn't put Martin on there simply b/c he will missing most of the conf. season.

I would also add McCoullough to the candidate list for second team, he's averaged double digits in conf games and been a force.

Wow Time Flies

Seems like yesterday we were talking about possibilities for all-conference. Well now it is time to actually give out the awards. League MVP goes to who? I am still not sure who gets it at this point. Jack Leasure anyone? :clapping

I guess we should start a new thread or have an admin change the name of this one from mid season to end of year.

Scar, you are a funny man. I still can't believe Leasure got it last year. What a joke. I was glad to see him choke in the finals against Winthrop.

I think that the first team should be:

Blair
Reid
Jenkins
Williams
Oliver

2nd team:

McLean
C. Holmes
Leasure
Sonko
Martin

POY: Reid

Manson, Bradshaw's gotta be in there somewhere.

There is gonna be a couple of deserving guys left out this year I think. Bradshaw over Martin for me though since Martin missed a good part of conference and he is still working his way back. Jenkins deserves 1st team for Winthrop though.

I will stick by my predictions from earlier this month:

Reid
Bradshaw
Jenkins
Blair
Williams.

Honestly, I don't see how you can reason anyone else on there. Reid has been phenomenal. Jenkins and Bradshaw the two top performers over the course of the year on the team with one game to win to go undefeated. Blair, scoring title. Williams, nation's top scorer (not sure if he still is but close enough if not).

I just can't put Oliver on there, I know he's a decent player but I've always felt that he would be just a 14-6 guy on other teams (that's still good). Martin just didn't play enough games and has almost taken a rebounder/defender role since he's been back. His MO is always the tournament anyways.

POY will probably go to Reid, though I think Bradshaw may have made it a more interesting vote when he completely outplayed him in the title clincher.

Second team (really muddled)
Brewington
Leasure
Sonko
Oliver
Smithson

These are personal picks but I doubt it will work out this way (I feel pretty confident about the first team). My guess is a CSU guy like Covington will sneak on just to get CSU represented.

COY
Marshall (if he goes 14-0 I can't pick against him, if he doesn't, maybe Lundy)

Freshman team
Harris (FOY)
Mack
Johnson
Knicksus (whoever that CSU guy is)
Jenkins

Mack and Harris are a close call, but I'll take Harris b/c of defense.

I thought the same thing, but he just doesn't seem to have the numbers. I know he will end up getting there because he plays for winthrop, and of his pre-season and past seasons accolades. I was going more by the straight numbers though.

Id vote Duggar Baucom COY if for no other reason than the almost meteoric transformation VMI has had offensively.

If I was the head coach at VMI, and put in that system. We would have the same rise in numbers. I agree with your logic B.J., I just don't see it happening because of sheer numbers. They did have a good improvement in number of wins in conference, but so did Liberty. Must be either Marshall or Lundy.

Remember when Marshall got it over Dunton in year #1? What a freaking joke that was.

Yeah, and remember when Danny Gathings won the tournament MVP after LB & Co. destroyed them in the finals?!

That was less of a travesty because the voting was done before the game. A huge mistake but one that they admitted to.
