we have this big blimp that will fly around during games and drop things out of the bottom of it. it's nice.
it's white and has the Liberty FLames logo on one side, and the other side has "Liberty University Dining".

Is this a joke? Because if it's not, I want to see this thing. How is it controlled?
Oh the things you could do with a bomber blimp!

UVA's John Paul Jones Arena has a blimp in their arena.

I'll be there, but they're not flying me.

Oklahoma had one also. i think it's pretty cool.
it is operated by someone with a controller. the same people that operated the message board for football will be doing it

They've had one at Texas for about 6-7 years. Its pretty cool as long as the guy flying it knows what he is doing. Usually they drop coupons for free drinks at the concession stand and the like. Sometimes it would be free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, etc.

that's exactly what they will be doing, dropping coupons.

Maybe the operator can harass the opposing team so as to get the LU players a few better looks at the basket...is there a rule on the books for IFO's that "crash" the court?

I looked into getting one back in 97 when Paul Nazigian and I were on staff. Those things are really, really expensive. Way too expensive for our budget back then anyway. I am glad we got one. I hope I get a Chick Fil-a coupon on Sat.

It's about time they started improving the game experience at the vines....the barber-proofing has begun!

Scar, give us a ballpark figure--are we talking hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands?
(Hopefully's it's less than a Jeep Compass).

It was tens of thousands when I looked into it back in the day. It was a relatively new product back then though I think. Not sure Liberty paid that for what they have now but who knows.

Yeah, even Northern Arizona had one of these things for their home games.

But are we the first and only school in the Big South to have a Blimp?
And is it too small to use for football games?

Yeah, any wind at all would send those things spinning. And it would appear tiny in an outdoor stadium.

During the women's game it came down in the crowd... I wanted to start saying "Oh the humanity!"

I was thinkin as I headed to the concession stand, "whoever is supposed to be flyin that thing, doesn't look like they know how to fly a radio controlled vehicle. I'm sure you could find somebody that knows radio control aircraft in town (certainly not me, Id rather stick to cars) to fly that thing during home games

They did do a much better job during the men's game of controlling it. Well, at least better than the women's.

They must of got that blimp from Spencers:) It's controlled by a guy holding fishing line. It was entertaining!!

FSN - What was funny was that during the women's game there were several little children crying and afraid they were gonna get hit. Several people got up. My mind raced to a new YouTube vid: Hindenburg II - The Vines Calamity. BOY did that thing look cheap. Here is a suggestion though: Fill it ALL the way up with air/helium. It tends to float better!!
