Lack of students at home games

We were talking about this on the Firehouse, I think we might our answer... Give credit to the Athletic Department for getting this done

Announcing the "Wild Wheels Shoot Out" courtesy of the Mabry Automotive Group and the Student Flames Club, and beginning at the men's basketball game versus arch-rival Radford on Tuesday, January 9, at 7:00!

LU students will have the opportunity to register to shoot for a new car! Students will fill out registration cards before the game, and then one student will be selected to attempt a free-throw, 3-point, and half-court shot to win their choice of one of four vehicles (Nissan Sentra, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mazda 3-series, or Hyundai Sonata). The participating student will have 60 seconds to complete the cycle -- up to three free throw attempts, two 3-point attempts and one half court shot. Participants will have the opportunity to win additional prizes for successful shots during the contest.

This promotion will begin with the Radford game on January 9 and continue for all home men's basketball games for the rest of the season---or until someone wins a car!

arch-rival Radford
ha. They got bumped up a notch. Maybe next year they'll be our arch-nemasis.

This is a good idea. Students are suckers for a free car. Too bad nobody's in town for the Radford game.

I think they should open it up to all fans not just students. Plenty of community folks that would like a chance at a car. I don't need a car but I would love to see if I could hit that shot. We used to do this in practice back when I coached and I was barely able to do it after several tries. The half court shot is one that I practiced a lot back then. Even recently Ryan Mantlo and I would have competitions shooting from Half Court. This is a great idea. They do it at the Richmond Spiders games.

man, it's hard enough to hit the halfcourt shot. So you've got to be skilled enough to hit a FT and a 3pter and lucky enough to hit the Halfcourt.

I would ask them to let me Start at Half court. You hit that shot in 2 tries, you have a chance. Plus you have to run down your miss which could go over the goal and into the tunnel or anywhere else. I don't think anyone will win this but they will make sure of it by getting non-athletic looking people. I feel like walking in like Kaiser Sose and then when they pick me, I spring into action and hit the shots! Oh I have big dreams!

My buddy at WU probably wishes they would have had a car up for grabs when he actually did this about 4 years ago. Instead, he received a year's (12) worth of pizzas from pizza hut.

haha, 12 is a years worth? I mean, that's a lot of pizzas but certainly not a years worth.

I was at a high school game on Wednesday night and they did the same type deal although you only got one shot from each place. They ended up having two people make the half court shot. I know it's shorter in high school, but still that's pretty good.

I would have a better shot from half court than the foul line. I'm a horrible shooter.

You may be mistaking that with the Hummer give away. I think they refunded the ticket money or something like that

Freshmen win the Jeep Liberty because its a recruitment tool, you fill out a card to get info on the school and in turn you are entered to win the Jeep Liberty...though I am convinced that unless you decide to come here you have no shot at it....but that is just a theory....but anyways, that would be why a freshmen will always be the winner of the jeep liberty, if they even do it anymore
