I agree, this will definitely be the thermometer of where Winthrop really is. I don't see either team winning big, it will be a close game, and I'm going to pick ODU in this one since its in Norfolk.

I feel that the Winthrop @ ODU game is a good barometer for where Winthrop is at this stage of the season. ODU is a leader in a solid mid-major conference and how well Winthrop does in this game may be a better metric as to where they are this year as a program rather than some of the more hyped games that they have played early on.

If they can win this one big, then we'll have our work cut out for us, and we may have to wait until next year to return to the NCAA's.

If ODU dominates, then Winthrop may not be a legit "major" mid-major and should be very, very beat-able in the conference tourney.

Our terrible team last year beat Winthrop......both teams are pretty good, and both would beat us on the road right now.....we need to win the conference and get home court advantage in order to even have a shot in the conference tourney.....

I'm not sure how one game, anyone vs. anyone, makes a definitive statement about a team. When you look at performances you need a larger sample size. How a team fares over 10 games is more indicative of their success than a single game. What I find interesting is that you equate LU on the same level as ODU. Nothing in the sample size thus far would put you on the same level. I would say that you more closely resemble Radford than anyone else so far.

There was a little more thought process other than riling you up, though it was admittedly convenient that LU's and RU's resumes are very similar, RU has just played more D1 games and has won a road game, otherwise the two are almost identical. If LU wins a game on their upcoming road trip (very similar to RU's games against UAB, Wash St., and Air Force--which they all lost) they would stick out more than RU.

Until this 06-07 team actually does something, we really shouldn't be talking smack IMO. I am waiting for them to break out and win on the road and continue to play as they did at home in that 6 game home stretch. I believe they have the talent to do some damage but until they do, I would feel silly talking trash with the likes of Winthrop. Not saying it should stop though because it is entertaining

Winthrop is a senior-laden team with tons of big game experience. They lost a couple of role guys from a year ago, and their big man, Bradshaw may be fatiged from playing in the World Games over the summer. That said, they are clearly the front runner in this conference.

I would say James Shuler was a little more than just a "role guy".

Personally, I feel that this will be a tight game that could go either way, which if that occurrs then Winthrop is beat-able by us in the tourney, home or away.

I don't see how Winthrop playing a tight game on the road against a pretty good ODU team would make you think you could beat us. And to say that you could beat us "home or away"... I just don't see how you are coming to this conclusion. Now, had WU lost at home to North Greenville or Limestone or lost on the road to a bad ECU team... I could see how those games would give you hope.

WU wins by 6?

Yes, WU won by six but maintained a double digit lead until the final minute when ODU cut it down in mop up time. WU was able to shut down their post play which was huge.

Good win for WU and the Big South. Not sure if ODU is as good as last year though with Alex Loughton and the Guard from Charlotte, Hunter graduating. I am sure they are pretty good still though with Vasylius and Dahi down low.
