Dunton Announces Official Release Of Larry Franklin
December 13, 2006
Lynchburg, Va.

Head Coach Randy Dunton announced the official release of Larry Franklin (Jr., Guard, Mansfield, Texas) from the Liberty men’s basketball program. Franklin was in his first year with the Flames after transferring from Eastern Oklahoma State Community College.

“Larry has decided that it is in his best interest to return close to home,” said Dunton. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Franklin did not appear in any games for the Flames this year.

Never like to see a kid cut loose but he just didn't fit in here. Hope he gets a deal to continue his education somewhere.

I really liked having Franklin here....everyone knows Brew wants the point, and BJ is playing very well....he was a smart player, and could have helped out....but it isn't a huge loss

And For the Second Biggest Shock of the day... I AGREE WITH DICKENS
He was a great player and could have helped, but it looks like the guys are doing fine without him.

Nah. By all indications, this is an isolated case. As TDDance said, he just wasn't a good fit. He's been off the team for a while. This was just the official announcement.

I'd be willing to go as far to say that this wasn't a basketball decision, then say more of a Liberty Way issue. He just didn't agree with the rules and therefore, strugged to make the adjustment to Liberty life.

He had all the talent in the world and could have contributed but just a case of the Liberty bubble too much to handle.

my interpretation: (subject, of course, to debate)

yet another 20 something yr old college kid who didn't get what he wanted, is stomping his feet and leaving.

this, however- is somehow RD's fault for not patronizing him- therefore- an "unfulfilled promise"

ok. whatever. back to the season at hand, w/ LB, Brew, Smitty, McLean and the boys.
