2025 off season

Thought I'd start this thread as a landing spot for commentary and questions about what the team will look like going into next year.

Anything posted for the immediate future is going to be even more speculative than usual because of decisions yet to be made (or at least made public) regarding who is going to be returning from this year's roster.

Does Metheny return? He participated in Senior day festivities, and apparently told York that he is planning to get started in a career in real estate. My personal feeling is that winning the CUSA tourney while being named MVP and then getting the chance to play in the dance makes it unlikely he changes his mind. Tough to top that as an end to your college career.

Peter and Maughmer? I mention them together to save keystrokes, when in fact they are totally separate cases (although quite similar.) If anyone has any insight as to what the timetable might be on their petitions for extended eligibility, I'd be curious to know. I certainly don't expect anything til after the tourney, and if it is turned down (likely IMHO) they will have the option of taking it to court. In any event, Ritchie and his staff need to be scouring the portal for possible replacements. The portal opens this Monday and continues through 4/22.

Outgoing transfers? Tough for me to imagine Spell not leaving. Making the call right now that he transfers to Cedarville. Other possibilities could include Kai Yu, Will Gibson and Curtis Blair. All of these would fall into the category of "seeking minutes." Among the players in the current rotation, the only one I could possibly see getting poached by a bigger program is Aquino. Would have been more likely if he had kept putting up the numbers he did early in the season. I think it's a long shot now.

The 3 November signees should all be on the roster, unless someone changes their mind about coming, in which case it is not clear what would happen. The new Aid Agreement rule seems to say this is still not acceptable, but no longer states what the penalty would be (if any).

This was posted in the Oregon thread by Ballah09. Mickhail Pocknett, D2 transfer from King College we have already reached out to. 6'6" swing player who averaged over 22ppg this season. (Portal opens earlier for D2 transfers.)

https://www.on3.com/transfer-portal/new ... n-indiana/

I will be surprised if we do not hear of more like this. Ritchie seems to have found a sweet spot in identifying non-D1 players who have the talent to help us.

Breaking: Urgent & immediate closed door meeting scheduled by Ian McCaw w/Coach RM. Dale Layer being brought in as a tournament grooming consultant. Apparently administration is pressing RM on the haircare plan moving forward. Sources indicate that disciplinary measures may need to be administered if immediate corrective action isn’t taken. Sources also indicate that potential fines and reprimands may need to be administered if immediate inappropriate behaviors are not immediately corrected, immediately. Per source. Developing.

I think Blair will see his minutes increase. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the 6th-7th man off the bench. If there is a a transfer I would think it would be Spell. He’s the last one off the bench.

Lastly, I do think HCRM dips in the transfer market and grabs a guard/forward with some height.

Nowhere to go but up as far as Blair's minutes are concerned. We have already approached a 6'6" g/f in the portal.

Update 3 have been told to leave, one has hired an agent, and one has meeting tomorrow!

"Told to leave" makes it sound like a disciplinary thing, which I'm sure it is not. They have no doubt been politely informed their scholarship will not be renewed.

So, you have numbers, but no names (and apparently do not have a good grasp on the grammatical concepts of "number", or sentence structure and punctuation).

As far as meetings are concerned, every year in the days following the end of the season, Ritchie meets with each player on the team to give them an evaluation of their performance and discuss their future in the program. If your info is accurate, at least 3 of those meetings have already taken place. Seems a bit sooner than past years, but with the portal opening today they probably needed to expedite things.

Safe to say that the player who has hired an agent will not be returning. There are a couple of possibilities there.

I’ve got names! I can somewhat write sentences! I can also read these other LU Armchair coaches post on these forums. HCRM had a meeting with team when they arrived in Lynchburg on Saturday night around 10:30 pm. CBB portal is open today.

I think I can say with some certainty that players being "told to leave" did not happen in an open team meeting, nor did he meet with them individually at that time of night. There may have been some one on one meetings yesterday, but that would not normally happen on Sunday. That's not saying there could not have been a departure from the norm due to the portal situation.

Bryson Spell has entered the transfer portal.

No surprise here. I'm sticking with my prediction he will end up joining coach Jones and former teammate Jaylen Davis at Cedarville.

Since the actual limit next year is on roster spots (15) not scholarships, I think we should add JC Schirer to the list of those who will not be on next year's roster.

You may have already figured this out, but if you click on "previous team" at the top of the list it will show all the transfers by their current team in alphabetical order of the schools name.

Ok. I think I can say with an extreme amount of certainty. They was a meeting and some was told to basically leave. Mostly what LU would consider culture kids. This is the norm in college basketball looks like even at Liberty. I also was just told another kid has enter the portal so looks like 4 now. With one that hired an agent and one still to have a meeting.
