Fair seed, but a tough matchup.

Friday in Seattle, which may as well be a home game for the Ducks.

The other 5 seeds are Michigan, Memphis and Clemson.
McNeese, a team we beat, gets Clemson in the Midwest. .... :banghead :frustrated

Yesterday I was canceled off a project this coming Friday ... in Seattle. I kiterally could have been paid to go to the game like back in my media days. Alas ...

Glad we are not playing Michigan. 2 seven footers. Although Oregon has big guards and their own 7-footer that averages 14 and 7. Going to have to shoot lights out again to pull off the upset.

Just checked the NET rankings, and Clemson is actually the highest ranked of the 5 seeds. For some reason McNeese is 2 spots above us, despite the fact that while we have the same record, almost all of their wins are quad 4 and we beat them head to head.

If this game was played east of the Mississippi I would like this matchup but consider me skeptical we can pull off the upset on the road. Should be a good game regardless though.

Why would traveling 2000+ miles across multiple time zones to play in front of a hostile crowd matter? Some would consider that an advantage for Oregon.

LU was out there in Nov. I don’t know how hostile this plays will be. I can promise you it will not be more hostile than Kennesaw 2022-2023.

Driving time per Google Maps:

Eugene - Seattle 5 hours
Lynchburg - Seattle 41 hours

The "site" may be neutral.
The crowd will not.

It’s a 5-6 hour flight. Several schools will be represented in the crowd. Whether a true Oregon advantage will be noticeable remains to be seen. No need to panic.

This is March Madness, where people love to pull for the underdog. Team is gritty, smart, determined, and inspiring. It should be easy to climb aboard.

NCAA needs to put a limit on travel, i.e. stop sending east coast teams to west coast for first round play. (all sports)

Didn’t Liberty beat MSU in California 2019 NCAAs? Crowd got pretty loud when Liberty staged the late comeback.

Reality.
To say this is not a clear advantage to the Ducks is a HUGE "positive spin"
Not the worst approach to take, but I personally am a fan of reality.

As far as your post about it being a 5-6 hour flight, that is true. It is also a 900 plus dollar flight (economy class, round trip) PER PERSON, plus at least 2 nights lodging and car rental or Uber. A group of Oregon students or local fans can pile in the car Friday morning, be there well in advance of the game, drive back after and be in their own bed by 3 or 4 AM for the cost of a couple of tanks of gasoline. A charter bus would be cheaper yet.

Seattle is the closest major city to U of Oregon. Their alumni could fill the arena without a single person crossing the state line into Washington. It’s about the equivalent of playing Oklahoma in Dallas or Michigan in Chicago. If 20% of the arena is LU fans I’d be pleasantly surprised.

For the record, all of the teams involved in the 2019 games mentioned in CA and most of their fans, traveled 2000 or so miles to get there. They were true neutral court games.

Again - Just not the way it works. Tickets are expensive and many teams play in that same arena. Other team fans normally root for underdog. So, unlike most sports venues - NCAA tournament games are not made up of locals. Oregon Fans are awesome - so I'm sure they will be loud, but I expect our fans to be loud too and then add in 60% of the fans routing for underdog - advantage Liberty...

I mean, we are the underdog, and we're probably the most hated underdog in the whole nation.
