Ritchie is a good coach but he has to bring in length and athleticism to compete with the Q1 schools. Our best teams had both with Georgie, Caleb, Scottie, Lovell, etc. now teams are shooting over our tiny guards, driving at will and grabbing rebounds like nothing.I think you're just remembering those teams with red, white and blue colored glasses. I'll assume you are specifically talking about the 2018-2019 season because we had that same core group of players the year prior and was 186 in kenpom. In the 2018-2019 season we had the same struggles against good teams leading up to our win over Mississippi state. We were 18-0 in Q4 games that year but 7-7 against Q1-3 teams. For context we are currently 3-0 in Q4 games and 5-4 in Q1-3 games. Our backcourt was bigger with that group of guys but our front court was slightly shorter.

Most colleges are playing a 3/2 now… so if two-thirds of your guards are > 6’ (really need 6’2” at a minimum) then you’re going to struggle against Quad 1 schools. If Venzant had a jump shot and used his quickness to penetrate more he could be one of our best players. Even still he’s stepped it up this year. Unfortunately, the refs really took him off his game vs. Alabama.ballah09 wrote: ↑December 31st, 2023, 2:00 pm I don’t see us beating LATech with their length and athleticism.
