Longwood will be really up for this game. I think we have the talent to blow them out, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was close.

Blow. Out.

I look for the team to come out blood thirsty after the embarassment last year. Even though we did beat them in the rematch, I would still be ashamed if this team came out lacking a chip on their shoulder.

By the way, has anybody seen an interesting billboard on Leesville Rd, just past Airport Rd?

Longwood limps into the Burg with a 3-6 record.

I saw that....interesting how they dissed LU. the board says something about playing D1 hoops, and lists some other state teams but not us.

I haven't seen the board, but:
GO FLAMES-KILL LONGWOOD-I DON'T WANNA HEAR TRASH FROM THEIR PEEPS LIKE I DID LAST YEAR...grrrr

Longwood/LU

Anyone remember the brawl between Longwood and LU fans after a game in the late '80's in the old Multi-Purpose Center?

I am right with you guys. I hope we crush them. I know alot of our players aren't from around here, but they have got to know how much the student body and alumni dislike them.

As for that billboard, does it just list UVA, Va Tech, Richmond? Or does it mention all the D-1 schools they play in state?

Why would they want to brag about playing a big south team that won only a handful of games last year? Wow! Big accomplishment.

No comment. You have no photographic proof that I was even on campus at that moment. 8)

Seriously, that reminds me how much I despised that school back in the day. And it always seemed like we needed to check birth records because some their player slooked like they were in their 30s.

Shoot, since I can't get reps any more (can I??), I know I got in a few hard shots. It was a blast. They lost the game AND the fight. A certain chancellor was "privately" thrilled to no end. :D

At the St. Francis game, they billed Longwood as a "Longtime rival"-on longwoodlancers.com, this is the most anticipated matchup for them. Could this be the rebirth of a rivalry that can grow greater than LU/RU?

ONLY IF THE FREAKING MORONS AT the big south--THE PRESIDENTS--LET THE LANCERS IN.

you know I wouldnt be surprised if this did get bigger than RU/LU since the LU students probably haven't witnessed this game IN 2, GOING ON 3 YEARS. I doubt the student body even knows they're supposed to dislike them.

Students don't know who LU's rival is and don't even know we have a rival.

I think this should be part of a "Liberty Traditions" section of freshman seminar. I'll help teach it. For free.

Longwood I would dare say is more talented then St. Francis and I believe this will be the toughest home game to date this season, not because of the talent level, but simply because these guys want to beat us so badly...I think it will be a good game, but we will pull it out by 9 or 10

lets go for 8,000 strong in the Vines on saturday, haha...kidding....i meant 9,000

well, how can you have a rival when your home game is always over christmas break? I'm pretty sure the BSC has successfully killed that rivalry (as planned?). Now, to your average student I just look like a raving lunatic.

3300. OK. I'll be there. 3301.

The Longwood rivalry is the one that most people think of. We have a lot more students from that area than we do from the Radford area (from what I have noticed). Plus Longwood is closer so a trip to an away game is a lot easier.

Does Longwood still have that freakin "Rug" mascot that they had in the 80's? That thing sucked. That thing was a sorry excuse for a mascot if I ever saw one.

No...now they have a guy that paints his face blue, carries a ridiculous shiled that looks like it was made in an elementary art class and a pointy stick.

Oh okay! got to be better than the rug.

Hey, I think this may have merit.

Anyone have any ideas for the class syllabus?

Just a 20-30 minute spill on all things LU.

1) The words to the Fight Song

2) The reason we use an Eagle is not because a pack of Eagles is a Flame. We use it because it looks cool.

3) Our main rival in football is VMI (I guess). Our main rivals in other sports are Radford, hereby termed as Effing Radford, and Longwood.

4) You wear red to games. You do not wear blue, you do not wear white. You wear red.

5) Sports in college are different than high school. You go to the game. You stay the entire game. You have fun.

In all serious-ness, it would be a good thing to do during orientation. It's a way to inform the kids all at once and to make freshman seminar a little more fun.
