It’s gotta be tough recruiting students to play in a gymnasium that seats <1500 people. Most high school gyms here in the Chicago burbs are larger and nicer.

For years they played in local coliseums in Jax and couldn't draw flies in the bigger arenas unless they hosted a big brand school. So they remodeled the historic gym on campus and draw roughly the same number of fans. But it feels like more of a homecourt advantage with students able to walk to the games.

We definitely have a better high school gym than they do.

Artis Gilmore used to play for the Dolphins in the joint before his Hall of Fame career.
Let the record, show that the Dolphins have been rather hot as of late and have the ability to upset us if we aren't on our game.

They haven't lost at home yet this year so, yeah we better be on our A game.

Jacksonville U just opened a "Basketball Performance Center" adjacent to Swisher Gym on January 25th. See here...

Here's a photo gallery...

It's an $8 million, 26,000 square foot facility with offices, weight room, training room, full and half court surfaces. My big question is why they didn't build a new arena and convert the "historic" Swisher Gym to their practice facility. Seems like a big miss to me.

McGhee has 26 at the half

McGee is the only reason to watch. The TV production matches their small high school gym. The announcers aren't terrible but the camera work, etc. is really bad.

Liberty playing TERRIBLE in the 2nd half. Totally let JU back in the game.
Where's the killer instinct? When you have a team down - finish them off!

Seems like we are often outplayed in the second half of games.

That’s pretty embarrassing and incredibly frustrating.

73-69 loss. JU stays unbeaten this year in their HS gym.

One of those nights. Usually when DM goes cold someone else gets hot. Not tonight.

Fortunately for us JSU lost their third game so we are still in first but again have no room for error.

Gee, I have yet to be embarrassed by this team this year and I have seen every game. Several guys have bad shooting nights in a high school gym, it happens. Still the best record in the league. Much rather have a game like this now than 3 weeks from now.

That was a brutal way to lose. Love McGhee, but this one’s on him.

I'll take one like that with all the W's we've had that have been on him

Been fine if someone/anyone else could've stepped up. You can hardly blame this one on McGhee.

Lots of forced shots and bad turnovers in the 2nd. At some point you have to realize they’re not giving it to you in the 2nd half and get your teammates involved. No one else stepped up because McGhee wouldn’t let them. The couple times McGhee made a good pass out of the pressure he was facing, his teammates drilled big 3s. If he does that even one more time instead of throwing up a wild shot or dribbling into traffic and coughing up a TO we win.

I don't think it's constructive or helpful to call out individual players, but all you have to do is look at the box score to see that one starter had 0 points and one had 2. Several players missed a few shots and quit even attempting after that. Sure, Darius forced a few, but no one was taking a shot unless they were wide open. There is a shot clock involved. I thought that it might have been good to see Abii and Preston in the game at the same time in the second half because the other team was getting to the rim too often, but I'm not going to blame the Coach. Face it, we had a bad second half, but you blaming it on a guy that had 30 when 2 other player combined for two and the other starters barely got into double figures is ludicrous.

Hey man, no need to get defensive. Darius is our star player, so hear bears star-player level responsibility. Lots of times he wins us games, this one, he lost us. He had a monster first half but was actively detrimental to our offense in the 2nd. He was 1-10 from the field, 3 TOs and was responsible for 2 TOs and a missed 3 on our last three possessions. We were bad because he was bad. Hopefully he takes it as a learning experience.

NIL $ - perfectly fair to call out players now. You are right and he knows you are right. McKay knows you are right, and probably told him to keep shooting and he was right in saying it. . It’s hoops, things happen. In a 1 bid league, all that matters is home court for tourney, better to not go in cocky. I watched JU a lot this season at home, tough out. LU has dramatically influenced defensive play in league and they played it out of their mind 2nd half. Good on em.

As great as venzant is on the defensive side of the floor he is almost non existent on the offensive side. He's only averaging about 3 fg attempts per game with a 18% 3 point percentage which is less than ideal from a guard with our offensive system. If he was a great point guard it wouldn't be much of an issue but he's not. McDowell has been our go to guy when McGhee goes cold but he was ice cold all game long despite have a few wide open shots. Our lack of a true point guard is glaring everytime we play a solid defensive team. McGhee is great but he really shouldn't be handling the ball as much as he does. It's also games like this I wish we had a true big man, it would open up our offense so much more and take the pressure off McGhee to do everything himself.
