This one will be decided by our secondary players. Rode, McDowell and Peebles will need to be ready to hit open jumpers because Darius will not see much daylight. Not that he needed any against FGCU!

I hope that Rode will assert himself a little more offensively as the situation allows. Even Coach McKay has said that he is a little too unselfish at times. The team will need that down the stretch in this new and improved conference. I also think that Venzant is gaining confidence and I look for a breakout game before long. He and Peebles will soon be old enough to shave, and as they mature, they will be special.

10.5 point spread seems really high for 2 teams that deflate the basketball. Even more so for a team like ours that struggles from the line in closeouts.

I think this is going to be a nail biter If LU covers the spread that would be impressive

Edit to add: McDowell 7-9 from 3.

This was the most impressive win of the season. Played good in all facets of the game. McGhee, rightfully, gets the pub as the face of this team but Venzant’s job on the D has made a huge impact. He neutralizes the oppositions #1, game in, game out. He does it so efficiently that it is easy to miss how good he is.

Glad to be dead wrong about everything leading up to this one. Home court is a weapon

Yeah LU has a player in the zone right now. Hopefully it continues to elevate everyone else’s game. It’s fun to watch. I’m also on record as a big venzant fan

This was a statement game to the rest of our ASUN Conference opponents. Both teams entered the game with unblemished 3-0 conference records. Liberty walks away with a 39-point victory.

What was our shooting percentage? Seems like almost every shot was Liberty took was made.

Peebles got a lot more attention than Venzant as both were being recruited and committed to Liberty. Now that we’ve got half the season under our belt, I think Venzant is emerging as the more valuable of the two.

Let me clarify - Venzant’s skill set is in greater need on this team right now. His defense at the point is outstanding. Imagine how much he will develop, how much better he will get over the next year or two.

Peebles will have his opportunities in the future. But Venzant’s opportunity is now and he’s making an impact!

See stats below. Consider also that we missed our first 7 shots from the field. We were down 16-5 at the 11:24 mark of the first half. Last three quarters of the game was as dominant of a game I can recall ever seeing from a LU team against a D1 opponent.
