Kennesaw State Series

This just in. Due to both KSU and Liberty having their scheduled games this weekend postponed due to opponents Covid issues, the ASUN has shown the common sense to have us play each other. It goes down this weekend in the Burg!

Correction. N Florida, who was KSU's scheduled opponent, does not have Covid issues, but since J'ville was scheduled off, they will play them while we play KSU. Either way, it's great news that we won't have a 2 week layoff.

Looking at KSU, they are 3-7, with all 3 wins coming against non-D1 opponents. They have been competitive in their losses recently, and they were outscored by a combined 11 points in losing 2 to Jacksonville starting league play. This is a very young team, and I believe they start 3 FR from what was by consensus the best ASUN recruiting class this year. Probably good for us to get them earlier than we would have, because they will likely improve as the year progresses.

2 Interesting statements by Ritchie in his pre-game with York. "The ASUN has made it clear they want healthy teams to play" and "I expect to play 4 games this week instead of 2." So, that would seem to mean a M/Tu or Tu/W matchup against another healthy team. Doing this will open up dates later in the season for the teams who are currently dealing with covid issues to get in their games when they are healthy.

LU 69 KSU 63. Closer game than it should have been.

Yea we’re not playing well atm. Look at KSU out of conference games, they pretty much got blown out of most. Question is did we play down to them or are we just not as good as we were early in season. Sort of looks like we’ve been playing down to teams.

They came in and kicked us in the teeth

Not pretty.

More missed FT and bunnies.

So far this year I’ve been pretty confident we would win the conference again and I still think we probably will but I’m certainly much more worried after the first 3 games. I certainly don’t know much about basketball but it seems like we’ve struggled a little bit with offensive consistency tonight and game one last weekend.

Only 4-14 from three, atypical for this team. Hit a couple more of those and it is a much more comfortable game.

We got down early again. And struggled with the press at the end

Lost by 11 to Belmont and 10 to Mercer... Both pretty good teams. I'm surprised that anyone would have expected a blowout. We spotted them 12 points and didn't play offense for the first quarter of the game.

Maybe to early to call a pattern but,
we appear to come out stale after a few days off. If we play well Staurday that will be 2 weeks in a row of the same pattern.
If that is so something needs to change during the longer layoffs.

Ballcoach, back away from the :koolaid . It's turned hard. Glad to see Blake Preston have a dominating inside presence with 17 points.

KSU's #22 Spencer Rodgers was averaging 16 ppg, but lit us up for 31 points last night. My sources say that he was recruited by LU, but chose KSU instead.

In all fairness to ball coach, certain other places in certain casino towns were predicting a 20 point win.

OK, that explains it.
(Since it's clearly not possible your expectations could have been out of line.)

One of our struggles this year has been that we don’t have a clear go-to who can create his own shot. Our offense needs to be able to see what the defense is giving and then make adjustments, I think that’s led to some of our first-half deficits. Instead of having someone like Caleb, or even Myo at times, who can iso someone when we really need a bucket, we’ve got to wait to adjust and find an offensive rhythm before we can really score at all.

Ballcoach probably checked with his bookie before posting that. 8)

Of KSU's 3 wins, none were over a D1 team. And their losses were not to Duke, UNC, Gonzaga or Villanova.

Ours are not either (although we are actually ahead of Duke in the NET rankings and not far behind UNC). Yes, we have a better resume than KSU, and I "expect" to win again today, probably by more than 6 points. 20 point margins do not happen often in conference play. Teams know each other too well.

Also we don’t normally suck at shooting 3s

McGhee didn’t even score til the second half

Gotta think that won’t happen too often
