Transfer Portal (ASUN)

The first "defection" from the ASUN is guard Christian "Saucy" Agnew, who was N Alabama's leading scorer. More to come for sure. Assadulah has to be thinking about it, along with Perry and Diawara of Stetson. Wouldn't be terribly surprised if we lose one too.

Holden Redparth, a seldom used R-JR swing player, is also leaving N Bama.

As teams wrap up their seasons, the trickle of players transferring to this point will increase rapidly. I don't expect anyone from N Florida any time soon, because they may have post-season options. Possibly Lipscomb, although at 16-16 they are a long shot, even for the CIT.

Is it possible Newton might transfer? He was not on the bench (that I could see) Sunday for the Championship game. He was spotted later in street clothes with the team.

Newton was there in street clothes. Or at least I thought that was him.

Brendan was sick and unavailable to play all week.
Having said that, I don't think he is going anywhere, but a lot of players in his situation would.

6'4" R-FR C.J. Washington of Kennesaw State is transferring. He was a part time starter who averaged about 6 ppg. It is inevitable that KSU will have at least one more transfer. With their highly touted recruiting class arriving, prior to washington's announcement they were 2 over the scholarship limit for next year, and it appears they are still actively recruiting for the 2020 class.

6'6" Soph. F Ugo Obineke is the second KSU player to enter the portal. Averaged 8.4 points and 2.5 rebounds and played over 27 minutes per game this year. This brings the Owls down to the scholarship limit for 2020-21.

Pietro Agostini, a 6'9" PF from Italy who played 11 min a game is the 3rd player from Kennasaw State in the Portal. They now have a scholarship available for another recruit or an incoming transfer.

The players I have named in earlier posts are all new additions. There are a few ASUN players who have been in the portal for a while. From NJIT, Taj Price, a 6'7" PF who is immediatly eligible and Caleb Matthews, a 6'4" SG, who has already announced he is going to UNCW. N Florida is losing 6'7" JR SF Trip Day. Then of course there is Keegan McDowell from Liberty. I think that covers every ASUN player currently transferring.

3 new entrants from FGCU:
6'6" SR G Christian Carlyle no stats this year (must have been injured)
6'9" JR F Brian Thomas 2ppg and 3rpg in 12 minutes
6'4" Soph Starting G Zach Scott 11ppg and 4 rpg in 28 minutes
FGCU in the same scholarship situation as KSU. They were 2 over the limit for next year and now have one spot open.

6'3" R-SO PG Malik Hardy becomes the 4th FGCU player in the portal. Averaged 4.5ppg and 2.8rpg in about 15 minutes. They now have 2 spots open.

KSU joins FGCU with 4 in the portal, as Adili Kuerban, a 6'2" SO G has entered. Averaged 3.6pph and 2rpg in 19 minutes. They also now have 2 spots open.

A 3rd N Alabama player, 6'9" SO PF Logan Windeler, has entered the portal. He played just 7 mpg and averaged 1ppg and 1.6rpg. The Lions now have 2 spots open for next year.

43 players entered the portal today, bringing the total to 262. Obviously, with the season over so early for everyone, they are coming in earlier than usual.

Looking at the ASUN players who have entered so far, it appears only 2 will significantly impact their team next year. N Bama losing Agnew will hurt them. He was their leading scorer and arguably their best player. I suspect the realization has hit home that with the Lions in transition from D2 and not eligible for post season play til the Fall of 22 he would never have an opportunity to play in the dance if he stayed there probably was at least one factor in his decision. Zach Scott of FGCU will also be missed for sure. I don't see either of them being especially attractive to high major programs though, so they are probably looking at a lateral move to a situation that is better for them.
It will be interesting to see if any of the "heavy hitters" who might indeed have the opportunity to "move up" pull the trigger. Assadulah fits the descrition both figuratively and literally, and you have to believe the numbers he put up down the stretch and his all around game would make him a hot commodity in the transfer market. Perry and Diawara of Stetson and Cooks of NJIT to a lesser extent.

I hope Assadulah stays with Lipscomb. For many reasons. First of all, like us they are another Christian school with a decent program in a low-major conference, and I always root for the little schools. Secondly, I like having Lipscomb as Conference rivals for the same reasons, and we need them to be good with a good player in order to properly root against them. We need them to have a star player villain. It just won't be the same if they're not as good next year. I'll add that I don't expect our drop off to be real bad next year.

Caleb Matthews has already transferred to Wilmington University (Delaware), a D2 program.

Thanks for the correction. I saw "Wilmington" and assumed UNCW. You know what they say about assuming.

2 from Stetson.
6'9" F Cyriaque Faucart
6'4" G Jalen Crutchfield
Both played sparingly. The hatters are still 1 over the scholarship limit for next year.

6'4" FR G Jaret Griffith, who saw limited action this season, is the 3rd in the portal from Stetson. This puts them at the scholarship limit next year. All 3 of the transferring Stetson players thus far were likely informed that they did not fit into future plans. It remains to be seen whether any of the talented Freshmen from this year who do will want to seek greener pastures.

Before anyone gets all excited, the 2 chances of Nolley coming to Liberty are slim and none. Slim just got quarantined.
