We were talking teams and this guy suggested moving it over here.
SCAR wrote:I was at the game in Richmond doing research and just enjoying college hoops. Richmond is young and started 4 freshman who were literally playing in their first collegiate game but they hit a shot a the end to send it into OT. You guys look pretty decent and will get better as I like a couple of your freshman a lot. Gabe Blair is gonna be great! We can talk more in the basketball section. Thanks for setting the record straight on your football team though. It seems to be a common mistake about ECU. Side note. Some of the best game dunks I ever witnessed, had happen to my team etc was against ECU back in my day when I had to guard Blue Edwards! He was a ridiculous athlete.
Yeah, I watched that game online and was disappointed. Our guys are just about as young. I felt like we kind of got hosed by the refs late in the game with some foul calls, and even the Richmond radio guys agreed, but we still had our chances and did get it done.
Our big men are kind of skinny and young but like you said Blair is tough, that guy was a big recruit Tennessee and some others offered. My scouting report for our team would say the guard play is going to be more our strength. Jenkins and Ingram are the most herlded. One came from UNLV the other from Wake Forest, they are pretty good, and Captain and Hinnat are solid as well.
I am interested in seeing your scoring guard. From looking at your website I understand you guys stream the games for free? We get a couple of D2's this week which is why I am looking ahead, which is good IMO for this team to gel with so many new players so we should be 4-1 going into that game.

Thanks for coming by our board. Our matchup is still down the road a ways. But that doesn'tmean we can't talk hoops.
I see your guys a couple of times a year here in Houston but I haven't seen this year's squad yet.
As for Dwight Brewington, we're all anxious to see him in action in Liberty gear. If he lives up to the rather lofty hype we should get much better in a hurry. We have a bunch of new faces in key roles right now. So we could have a high ceiling or be mediocre at best. Oklahoma really wasn't a fair assessment so our game with the Pirates will be a nice barometer for both of our squads.

Yes that guy was me

I am also the guy that you will hear when you watch our webcasts online. I think they are still free. Someone will have to let me know if that is not true starting tomorrow night. We open our home schedule with Cinn Christian and will not get tested until the Pirates come to town. You are right about you guys being young. I was impressed with your guards though too. They all pump fake and give you one or 2 power dribbles to get to the hoop. They can all shoot the 3 ball too. Should be a good game. That night is alumni night in the Vines Center and we are retiring the all time leading scorer Karl Hess' number. Yes he is the Karl Hess that is an ACC official. They will bring all of us Basketball Alum out to mid court for the ceremony. I am looking forward to that night for many reasons. I have already begun my homework on ECU (as you can tell). Assistant Coach Mack McCarthy was on the Big South Conference television package a few seasons ago then he was coaching women's hoops at Georgia Tech. He is a former head coach that should be able to guide Ricky Stokes' staff. I keep up with McCarthy through email over the years. Good guy. I wish the Pirates much success (except that cold night in Dec when they come to Lynchburg).

living in raleigh for seven years i watched and read about the pirates a lot, and now that terry holland and ricky stokes are down there (UVA guys) i certainly pull for them a lot more. i hope you guys improve and do well in C-USA, but not when you come to lynchburg!!

I grew up in Greenville and worked on Evans Street this past summer at Senator Dole's office, right across the street from the main campus, so I'm conflicted on this matchup.
Just as Liberty has many stereotypes that opposing fans respectfully heckle us with, there are many for ECU (STD's, drunks, etc.)

Well our program hasn't been very good in a while. No winning seasons in 10 years. Granted about half of that was in the old CUSA with Louisville, Ciny, Marquette and others but last year was total rock bottom. We had players transfer when Stokes came in and the rest transferred this year so it is a complete rebuild job.
I feel good about the staff we have in place from Holland down, got to trust that guy on hoops. I like what I have seen so far this year except for foul shooting. Luckily I think it got a little better last game. We are lucky to have McCarthy as a #2. That guy took a #14 seed Southern conference team to the Sweet 16 and won a lot of games. Anyway since you mentioned being friends with him, he has a very interesting radioshow as well here locally. It's archived weekly should be up tomorrow.

One of the shows had a Liberty guy on a while back, not sure who may have been on McCarthy's show.
Wow glad we aren't going to be facing the Brewington guy. I just looked him up.

yeah, he's something special! i can't wait until that first game when he unloads on st. francis.
our game against you guys should be pretty fun. it's good to get a CUSA team in the vines. LB loves to play against those North Carolina schools.

I will have to get with coach before the ECU/Liberty game and talk about it on his show. I don't know who he had on there from Liberty before though.

I know it is a few days away but I am doing my homework now and I am really looking forward to this game. These guys are young and athletic up front with Gabe Blair and John Fields both about 6-8 but Alex McLean has shown he is athletic and long as well. They have a ton of guards but they all seem similar in build and skills. They will be physical with Blair and Smitty too. This is a chance to knock off a CUSA team. They are gonna be tough though.

Scar, are you really building up ECU? I hope LU presses them, they'll commit 20-30 turnovers. With the game at LU's place, I would hope if you guys are turned around you'll win by 10-15.

Come on, Realist. After last season we take nothing for granted even if we do like our chances. Hopefully all of our Big South schools continue picking up non-conference victories wherever we can.

Wow Realist, I don't think ECU is that bad that we can pencil in a 15 point win. If we do win by 15 I will say that we are well on our way. This team is still finding its identity with all the new faces and no Brewington yet. I think ECU is better than what you think they are. Having seen them play I know Blair (their's not ours) and Fields are gonna be a handful on the glass.

ECU is by no means a great C-USA team, but we are coming off a 7 win season, so i hope we can win.

Hope there is a good crowd Saturday night for such an important game. Some people I've talked to aren't going because there is a Brand New concert at Lynchburg College.

No offense, but I'm at LC on Saturday. I'm in love with Brand New's new album.

Where are they playing at? I didn't even know they were touring. Personally, I wouldn't want to hear the stuff off of the album they put out in 04. Rumor has it their newest album is going back to what the one from 02 sounded like but who knows.
Go ahead, Kool-Aid drinkers, tell me I'm a horrible person and I'm not a fan because I'm going to a concert across town instead of the game.

Hey have a good time chico. Lemme know if they do any crowd surfing

I highly doubt there'll be any crowd surfing. It should be a good show though. A friend of mine saw them in Winston two weeks ago and said they did really well. I haven't been to a decent show in over two years so I'm dying to go to one.

Now that we know who won't be there Saturday, anybody care to discuss what might happen on the court?

I debated between brand new and the game for a bit then realized that the last time I saw brand new I wasn't overly impressed. I like their new cd, but again not overly impressed...plus with some of the things I have said about the schedule recently on the board I really should go to this game, I hope that it is a halfway decent crowd....
and as popular as brand new is these days any word on if its sold out already????
