Season Opener: @ Oklahoma

After all of the pointless blabbering in this forum, we finally have a game to talk about. Yeah, I know we dont have Brew in the lineup and this is on the road against a team that should pound us. But at least its a real game and not another exhibition. And despite the name of the school, they insist on calling themselves OU. Yeah, the state built on stealing land from the Native Americans (hence them being referred to as dirt burglars and land thieves) is clearly full of rocket scientists.

30,000 students but I'll bet 20k of them are in distance learning.

We oughta be on equal footing here.

I hope we score at least 40 points.

For the record OU is not a top 25 team. Probably doesn't matter though, this early in the season the polls are pretty meaningless. I think if we keep it under 20 we should consider it a "moral victory."

They are in a transition period. I'm not expecting a win but I can see us hanging within 10-15 points.

There's no such thing as moral victories.

With a game like this, final score predictions are for Vegas suckers. I'd just like to see the team be in the game in the 2nd half. It doesn't do them any good to get down by 20 early on.

As someone who follws the Big XII closer than most on here, I can tell you this team is not as good as recent OU squads. Sampson left the place in a mess when he bullrushed the job in Bloomington. They have a ton of new faces (like most major programs thee days) and are beatable if they play poorly and we play terrific. The odds of both occuring on the same night are not in our favor but to dismiss this as just a 40-point loss waiting to happen are premature IMHO. It could happen but its far from a foregone conclusion.

Another great point, Sly.

The biggest problem for us is going to be on the inside, which may be their biggest weakness. We simply can't allow them to dominate underneath and get easy putbacks. We've got to make them work for their points on the outside. We have solid gaurdplay with LB, Smith and probably Hubbard getting some action there as well. We really need BJ to step up and take care of the ball when he's in the game. The key to his game is for him to gain some confidence which will come in time against tougher opponents.

Another key component to keep in mind is that LB steps up big in these games. If he has any help against Kentucky last year, it doesn't get as out of hand as it it did.

I just ordered ESPN's full court package and LU is on the tube Thursday night! That said...

I think Liberty is going to walk the dog on OU. What is an OU? What have they ever done in athletics? The Big 12 in basketball - what is that? A bunch of BigSouth wanna be schools. OU doesn't have a starter that could play on Liberty's squad. Bunch of scrubs. Is Oklahoma a state or a territory? I'm not even sure why we took this game. Maybe we are just looking to give OU some exposure or something.

I hope Dunton plays a bunch of kids to keep the score down. Everyone should get to play in this one. I hope no one gets hurt against these Nebraska rejects. I just hope Liberty isn't looking past OU. We have to win the first one before we can start thinking perfect season.

Go Flames. Win number 1.
