Haymarket resident Josh Oduro considered enrolling at Paul VI as a freshman. But at the time, he lacked the confidence to compete at one of the metro area’s top prep boys basketball teams.

Instead Oduro attended Battlefield, where he played on the freshman team his first year and then on the varsity as a reserve his sophomore season.

Paul VI, though, remained interested in Oduro and stepped up their pursuit. After two years at Battlefield, Oduro decided he was ready to make a change.

Also Elon, and there may be others. It would certainly seem like Mason is our toughest competition.

Mason isnt as dominant as they were at the end of the Larranaga (sp?) era, but they do have a good bit of cache to draw on for potential recruits

Especially for those who live like, across the street from their campus.

Not exactly across the street but I do understand your point oldflame...that would be quintessential hometown kid

Actually, if he were to choose GMU , I would guess the reasons would be about 60% location, 35% A-10 affiliation and maybe 5% carryover from the run of success they had under Larranaga. He would have been about 5 years old when they made their Final 4 run.

Agreed, Oldflame. Mom's home cooking is hard to pass up sometimes.

Me.

I’ve spent as little time as possible at home since I left for college. I was so ready to get away.

I believe a lot of kids choosing a college, including athletes, like the idea of being close enough to drive home when they want or for their family to come see them play, but not so close that they will be expected every weekend or its too easy for the folks to pull ¨surprise¨ visits.

Paul VI is a mile from GMU campus. Haymarket @ 18-20 miles.
