2020 Recruiting Class Discussion

We have made our first offer for 2020. He is Drake Dobbs, a 6´1¨ PG from Minnesota.

As a public school player from the frozen north, Drake is a bit of a departure from our recent recruiting trend. He looks like a big time shooter, so it´s a bit surprising this is his first D1 offer. Almost makes me think there is a Liberty connection, but I have no idea what it might be.

My guess is he just is blossoming this summer during the live period. He doesn't look much like a baller based on size but the video clips in the
profile I just posted for him show you he has game.,

Great update on this class by Manson:
http://www.aseaofred.com/liberty-basket ... ing-notes/
He also mentions our only current offer for 2021 (Carter Whitt is no longer considering Liberty and his offer has been dropped). 7 footer Efton Reid could be the breakthrough recruit our program has been looking for for 45 years if we could land him. High major talent, and sounds like a McKay type kid.

Perfect fit for our system. Length and athleticism on the defensive perimeter and can score from all 3 levels.
4 scholarships available for this class and 4 offers. Classic McKay recruiting strategy. 2 down and 2 to go. Looking to get commitments from 6'10" NC PF Dean Reiber and 6'6" KY SF Jackson Sivills.

I had a hunch their might be a Liberty connection with commit Drake Dobbs. Doesn't look like there is anything direct (like close family who are alumni), but after finding out his father is the Senior Pastor of Grace Church, which is the largest evangelical congregation in MN, I can see why he may have decided so early to come to LU.

Warfield goes to Sewickley Academy, which is a VERY exclusive (read EXPENSIVE) secular private school. He should be well prepared for college academics.

I got a kick out of this tweet from Jerry's Jokers, breaking down Isiah's highlight video. Things sure have changed.

Trying to figure how it is that Kyle Rode and Isiah Warfield, both of whom played for HS championship teams and have multiple D1 offers, have never been rated by Scout, Rivals or ESPN. Because those are the 3 services Verbal Commits uses in their composite rating, both have a default score of 2 stars. Both are 3 stars with 247, and their offer lists, video and HS accomplishments would seem to support that.

I love that these are not just quality talents but also quality people. High character, highly intelligent, high basketball IQ, hardworking, and LU fits.
We are going to be a scary team for high majors to play for the foreseeable future!

He does shoot similar to cabbil and had several of those running one handers which are so effective against longer more athletic teams.

Absolutely. Wish he could reclassify to 2019 and play next year. In the mean time some of our other guys are going to have to step up and expand their game to compensate.

I got curious and checked to see how other ASUN teams are doing with their 2020 recruiting. The tally?
Liberty............................................. 4 scholarships available, 4 offers, 2 commits.
Other 8 teams combined.................. 37 scholarships available, 73 offers, 1 commit.
The 1 commit was to N Florida; a 2 star home town forward from Jacksonville. They are 1 for 27 on offers for this class so far.
The number of offers made range from zero to 27.
Most surprising to me; Lipscomb, with 4 scholarships, has made only 1 offer, to KY SF Jackson Siville, who we have also offered.

They also have us with only one Commit (Kyle Rode) when in fact we have 3 signed LOIs and Marten Maide actually committed BEFORE Rode. Hard to tell where our ranking would be if they were up to date, considering if they are that far behind on our class, we are probably not the only ones.

Excellent article from the area fishwrap on Isiah's committing to Liberty:
https://tribhssn.triblive.com/sewickley ... o-liberty/
Apparently watching our win over Mississippi St helped him make his decision.
“It played a big part actually,” Warfield said. “I saw how well they played together. I saw how Coach (Ritchie) McKay coached. It definitely gave me a lot of confidence in the program.”

One of Casey Alexander's first moves as Belmont coach was to extend an offer to 6'6" KY SF Jackson Sivills, who he had previously offered at Lipscomb. Sivills is one of just 2 players Liberty has offered for their 2 remaining scholarships in the class of 2020. I would think Casey has a better chance of landing him at Belmont, but I still like our chances if it ends up to be a choice between the two. I would be more worried about losing him to a high major program if he blows up this Summer.

Flames get a commitment from 6'4" SG/SF Jonathan Jackson, the younger brother of former Tar Heel star Justin Jackson.

His family is now living in Kansas, but I believe Sly knew them when Justin was playing homeschool ball in Texas.
